Los Angeles fires - hope y'all are OK

You know, @MikeC, I don’t disagree with you. I’ve actually told people to knock off the political stuff here before. And I respect you, your knowledge, and your contributions here. But to call to shut down a thread where people dared to make very out of character political statements in the face of losing everything that they own is fucking cold. We should be supporting them and helping them through these horrible times, not calling to shut down threads where they slipped up and vented a little.

I’m not advocating political talk on the forum. I’m advocating compassion and understanding in this situation. Especially, for fucks sake, with Al. The dude goes out of his way to help and be a positive member of this community. He was under an evacuation order (or very close to it) and obviously slipped up, and people are calling to shut the thread down and have mods delete their accounts? Good god.

As above, I think you’re missing my point. Politics shouldn’t be discussed. But give people a little bit of a break, here, given what’s going on. Especially in a thread called “Los Angeles fires - Hope y’all are OK” in the Lounge. Especially given the people who were involved. It’s not a normal everyday thing.

As above, I’ve personally posted in a couple of threads telling people to can the political talk. But shut down a thread? Have mods delete accounts? That’s an absolutely ludicrous response.

Again, I’m not advocating for political discourse. I’ll I’m saying is that shutting down a thread and having mods delete accounts is a way over the top response to valued members of the community doing something very out of character in the face of a horrible situation.

I realize that it’s pretty impossible to keep up with all posts on all threads, but regarding compassion for folks in the wildfires danger zone, I believe I was the first to tell @Al1885 that I was concerned for him, his family and his business. That was before this thread was started.

I’m not looking for credit or anything like that, but just pointing out that compassion was exactly what I felt and expressed to my friend.

The calls for shutting down this thread happened in light of the political comments that vilified people and came dangerously close to being racist by innuendo.

And “have mods delete accounts”?! I might have missed anyone calling for that, but I know I sure didn’t.

Bottom line, most folks on this thread have shown great concern and compassion to our fellow Buzzers and the people in California affected by this tragedy. That’s what this thread is expressly for. The few instances of politics talk were against the forum rules. Remember, this place is ours to preserve or to fuck up. I strongly vote for preserving it as the cool, sane and unique place it is — without a hint of politics.

Nothing missed. I disagreed, without trying to be overly verbose. Understood it the same second time around. Moving on.

Wait what? Which one? That lifted my spirits immediately.

@Al1885 I have to let your mouth water. It was supposed to be here last July, but is finally ready (lone luthier dealing with injuries. Should ship this week (Italy) so perhaps doesn’t arrive til next week.

Again, I don’t disagree with you for the most part.

I’m just saying each situation is different and should be treated as such. Throwing down with “eff this politician” or “your party sucks and is stupid” or something in the middle of a bass-related thread in one of the bass-related forums is vastly different than someone staring down forced evacuation and the possible loss of everything they can’t carry with them expressing political frustration for perceived actions or lack of actions contributing to the event causing the forced evacuation, in a thread in the Lounge specifically talking about the event. Edit: not that it should be allowed across the board, I’m just saying that it warrants some additional consideration.

And with that, I don’t think there’s anything more to talk about on this particular subject.

I still love you, @JustTim. It’s sometimes hard. I drink a little much. But, in the end I can’t quit you man.

We should all play “Come Together” on bass and host it online (prrhaps on @JoshFossgreen ) and donate … or fundraise for people most affected by the fires.

And stop yapping about things that arent for this forum.

I have it on good authority that @booker_t’s new bass is going to come in way far north of that Sterling’s price point. :money_mouth_face:

I have a very nice and vintage Behringer in Portugal… only needs electrics and strings.
I can supply the 9v!

Same as last week. Again, I understand that I am inconvenienced, and not devastated like those who have lost life, property, and pets…but, day-um

Really sorry to hear that, brother. I hope they’re wrong about how long you’ll be affected.

I think the idea of playing Come Together on bass and organizing an online event is truly inspiring! It would be a great way to bring the bass community together while contributing to an important cause. Maybe we could create a group of interested participants and brainstorm the logistics? For example, partnering with an organization helping the fire victims and figuring out a method to collect donations.

See now this discussion (@JustTim, @MikeC and @booker_t) is going well, because even though y’all disagree, you’re all assuming good intent.

Also Booker, you rule - ordering a bass during a disaster fire is so on point for how we roll on this forum.
