Los Angeles fires - hope y'all are OK

Now, THAT would surprise me. @booker_t is not a fan of spicy food, that I know! :joy:

@Al1885 's teriyaki potato dishes are an exception. Just got power back yesterday (ALL electric townhome) after losing it Tuesday. It reminded me to be grateful for light switches, hot water, fridge, heat, and bass amplification; while remembering so many are devastated with the loss of life, property, and animals… I was only inconvenienced (but, damn it was cold).

Nothing compares to the lack of internet. I remember the Brown out we had a few years ago, we have lights but nothing power hungry. But it’s city wide, no internet. That was hard, so hard, :joy: I think we went out of town by second night.

Thank god my mom and my sister were just left for Thailand. You won’t believe, my mom is a power user, she consume more internet than my wife and I combined

Thanks, @howard. So far, I’m good. My brother is close to the affected areas, but he and his wife are OK as well.

I’m… very fortunate. Many are not as lucky as me and mine have been.

I still gotta go back up to your restaurant, @Al1885. Your food is, officially, the bomb.

Yesterday I rewatched “Fire in Paradise” and “Rebuilding Paradise” about the camp fire 2018.

It was a frightening watch! It was not on such a big scale as this fire, but many lost there lives :frowning:

Not sure exactly what the chat rules are, can’t find them, but while the sentiments for safety is comforting, the political talk is not. Mod’s please consider shutting this thread down.

Shut it down…

I have mixed feelings about this (though I agree completely with the sentiment.)

I like having a topic to check in on the folks affected and think that is useful. And even if they need to rant - they deserve it.

For the rest of us current or ex-Californians in the peanut gallery, and especially for those with no experience living in CA at all, please do not continue discussing local CA politics. It’s not helpful here.

This is a section of the forum specifically set up for talk outside of bass

This part is. You don’t need to read stuff in the Lounge if you don’t want to.

Dude.

@howard If you are a mod here, or any mod reading this, please delete my account from this forum. Thank you.

I am not a mod, just a user like you. I am really sorry you feel that way - especially as I agree with you on the political talk thing.

Sorry you feel that way @Frisk_Cat

It’s one of the most difficult topic we have so far because, well you have to live here to know. There’s no way to be Kumbaya and nonchalant about this topic. That’s why I’m staying away from the core of the discussion even when I’m personally affected by this event.

@Frisk_Cat, please reconsider your request. The vast majority of BassBuzzers are dedicated to keeping the forum politics-free.

This forum is rare. Again, most of us are dedicated to keeping this space clean and pure. Stay and join us as we discuss all aspects of bass and playing. It’s a bright spot that keeps us all engaged and happy.

Because then you are a mile away from him, @joergkutter . And you have his moccasins!

The BassBuzz forum is like a second home to many of us. It’s about more than just bass; it’s about people and friendships and all sorts of other things. And this section of the forum - the Lounge - is specifically for non-bass chat.

And sure. It’s not supposed to be about politics. But people are losing everything they have - their homes, their businesses, everything that they can’t carry on their back or load into a car - and there are calls to shut down the thread because people who are getting directly affected talked a bit of politics?

Jesus, let them vent in a space where they feel comfortable. Political talk is obviously not the norm here, but the situation down here in LA is also obviously not the norm. If you don’t want to read the political stuff, don’t read the thread. But have some compassion and try to understand what they’re going through and why politics might have come into this particular, specific thread at this particular, specific time.

Wrong. Absolutely, positively dead wrong.

Discussion of politics has and deserves no space on this forum. There are literally millions of other places online to vent spleens, call names, vilify the other side, etc.

This forum is special and, yes, precious because there is NONE of that bullshit here. @JoshFossgreen set it up that way, and he was absolutely right.

I hope we can get back to “Hope Y’all are ok,” but I guess it’''s keep getting directed back to politic. Don’t read the thread? You generally have to read through a thread to get to info that may interest or be useful to you. I could go to “Show Your Basses” and find things that I don’t agree with but I won’t avoid the thread.

I’m not insensitive to this. I have been evacuated. Lost power totally last Tuesday through Friday, but 1) I’d like to think I have adequate places to vent, and 2) where does it begin? end? Someone is PERSONALLY affected by covid, abortion, racism … where? Sounds like anything that is personal to someone can justify politics

Again, I speak as someone who will probably have power shut off today because of winds and being in High Risk Fire Area. I’ll talk about my new bass that’s due this week/next week in this forum, and wish my bass buzz neighbors well and check on them here in this thread and BY PHONE ( great place to vent).
