Make Your Sh*tty Bass Play Like a DREAM (5 Steps)

Can a simple bass setup make a cheapo bass sound as good as a $1000 axe?

If you’re doing the Beginner to Badass course, this lesson would fit any time!

You may notice that in the course, I give some advice to get your first setup from a pro, rather than doing it yourself… I have since pivoted on the wisdom of this advice! Doing a basic setup like I teach in this video is super safe, requires no special tools, and could save you the hassle and cost of taking it to a shop.

Did I catch all your favorite setup tips?

And the guest appearance was very cool

this is an excellent video, one of the clearest and most logical setup vids i have seen.

(also @Gio’s ‘like and subscribe’ pitch is oscar-worthy.)

Fantastic! Exactly how I do my setups. Wouldn’t change a thing in that advice.

Great vid. Informative and fun!! And I would be remiss if I didn’t tip the cap to the Deep Purple “Stormbringer” tee you are wearing. My fav band of all time!!

The appropriate use of the Tenacious D CD made me laugh.

This may be the greatest video since… well, maybe since that rather dashing video with the beginner basses.

This is an unbiased opinion.

And, in my own words, I feel capable of setting truss rod and checking nut height now, which I never did before. High fives Josh!

I have a space on the mantle that I keep open, dusted and polished for the day.
This is my big break!!

A. That’s a really well produced and useful resource. I do pretty much everything the way you do it.
I slightly detune the string when I’m adjusting the intonation as the sometimes the spring isn’t strong enough to push the saddle and counter the string tension. But I’ll try pulling up on the string instead next time, like you suggested.

B. The shortest Oscar winning performance was Beatrice Straight in Network (1977) just five minutes and 40 seconds of screen time.
So you’re in with a chance @Gio

I keep sending Josh my reel and headshots.
Most of the reel is me in a blindfold.

That does seem to be a recurring theme

I didn’t know about the intonation step! Gotta check that. Thanks!
