Metronome practicing question

What do you all think about practice with a metronome where there is a different sound on the one? When I practice with straight drums I sometimes lose confidence that I am really in time whereas I can be sure I’m right or wrong if there is a different click on the one. My only problem with this is is it cheating? I know I have to learn to listen to the drums but when I’m working on timing the different click on the one really helps me

I always use an accent on the first beat, metronome or drum machine.

Definitely not cheating, but at the end of the day it’s a matter of personal preference. I’ve found that accented first beats in every single bar get on my nerves very quickly, so I usually have it turned off when practicing.

May as well get used to different accents and different sounds on each beat if you’re ever going to play with a drummer (or even a drum machine). Just sayin’.

I do both, if reading music, it doesn’t matter as much because i know where I am by following the music, but if just playing, I like the extra accent on the first beat.
