MIDI=>Keyboard command tool for Chocolate Plus MIDI Controller

I just received a little and very nice MIDI controller, the Chocolate Plus.

This is what it looks like (the card is business card size, just for reference):

I don’t want to use it as a MIDI controller. Just want to send keyboard commands for ToneLib Jam to control it:

  • A - Play: Space
  • B - Loop: F9
  • C - First measure: Ctrl+Home
  • D - Prev measure :Ctrl+Left

The software for the Chocolate Plus allows only A, B and C to be configured for keyboard control. D can only be used for bank switching.

My idea is to use the freely configurable MIDI mode and use some kind of software (for Windows) to convert MIDI messages to keyboard commands.

Does anybody know about such software?

OK, found a way: Midikey2Key

I am using MIDI commands C001xx, C002xx, C003xx and C004xx which will be translated to keyboard commands with Midikey2Key.
Easy-peasy!

@howard - do you know how I can make sure that this does not collide with MIDI commands already in use?

What exactly do you mean by C001xx etc? Do you mean MIDI CC (Control Change) commands? What exactly in the MIDI spec do you mean?

If you already have this working with the software, just put it on its own channel that nothing else is using.

I mean - I just took some arbitrary values. If I use a plugin that can be controlled with MIDI, how can I make sure that it does not use the same codes?
is there something as a custom code range?

Yeah, so that sounds like a terrible idea. MIDI has a specification for control messages and what they mean.

At this point, I would recommend you learn MIDI and how to use it.

I’d rather like to know four values that would likely work

I mean, it works perfectly now. Just making sure…

I think I’m safe withthe values I choose:

I’ll never use a HonkyTonkPiano

Question for the group (sorry to semi hijack the thread @Whying_Dutchman ).

I’ve got a Boss GX-10 That I was hoping to be able to hook a midi controller like the Chocolate up to, to give myself extra foot switches for turning individual effects on / off. I can’t find a definitive answer whether I can use the CTL / EXP port on the back to do this with something that isn’t a Boss switch. I also don’t know MIDI well enough to know if Boss is using a standard or some proprietary hullabaloo. I’d rather avoid the BT adapter if I can, I’d rather hardwire stuff like this in.

Maybe that helps?

That’s not MIDI, it’s likely a control voltage or switch or similar.
