I’m working on a “morning routine” style Youtube video - the goal is to ditch some technique bad habits and level up your coordination/speed/etc with some fun music based exercises.
And I need your help! To make sure these exercises are non-stupid and actually get you good results. So I’m running a 30-day challenge through November - if you wanna participate…
just spend ~10 mins a day (however many days a week you practice is fine) playing along with the tracks and tabs below
let me know what improvements you see in your playing by the end, plus approx how much time you put into them
grab a before/after video if you want to see proof of your progress!
Here’s a rough quickie lesson where I walk you through the exercises and explain how to get the most out of them: (enjoy the flying bits of fuzz)
I’ve been practicing level 1 on the older version of this and I’m getting buzz from the A string when I move from ring on 9th of A to 7 of E. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?
Josh - Do you have suggesting on the A→D pinky role? I’m that to be the second trickiest part, after the open string mutes in the third exercise.
I’m either having to collapse my hand, pulling the palm to the neck to get the leverage / flatten the first pinky joint out enough on the D string or adding the ring finger to handle the A string and not have to fully jump the pinky.
@JoshFossgreen Great exercises - I’m looking forward to seeing my progress. Can you provide the BPM for each track so I know what I’m working toward? Thank you!
Perfect timing, been needing some motivation.
In the lack of motivation, some straight forward instructions of “do this because Josh needs your input” will get me moving!
Day 1: In the books. I played around a little yesterday, mostly with exercise 1 on easy. Was struggling to keep the notes straight, but that was easier today. Played around with it a bit then played through on easy and hard. Some mix ups, but just kept rolling. Yesterday, I was incredibly frustrated with Exercise 2. It just felt so uncomfortable (and brough back mixed memories of Red Clay ). Today, I just tried to power through on easy. A few cycles even sounded good (?!?). Exercise 3 was felt a bit easier, because I didn’t have to focus on fretting as much. Still need a lot of practice on left hand muting, particularly on the open strings. This kind of feels like the easiest, but secretly it might be the hardest to nail perfectly… though after 30 days of that circus-esque synth loop, I may have lost my mind…
