Are we sure that’s a P Bass he’s holding?
I believe @Rickbacker posted that Duck is with his P bass in the shot.
Doesn’t look like a P Bass @MikeC but hey what would I know?
It’s a P Bass behind him yeah.
Gotcha. My mistake. I misread your point.
Duck often played a Fender P and many times his favorite and beloved signature Lakland P. I’m not sure what he’s holding in this pic, though.
No problem, I think it’s a Yamaha style body and the fret markers look similar to other Yamaha basses.
Found it: It’s a BB1200. A very rare pic of Duck trying out a Yamaha.
With the Yamaha amp behind him in the shot, I wouldn’t doubt this photo was shot at the Yamaha event at the NAMM Show, or at some other trade show.
That’s a great bass BTW - it’s the passive version of Peter Hook’s main bass for 40 years.
I’ve pored over the excellent book of Duck’s biography and note-perfect transcriptions and there’s no mention of him ever playing a Yamaha, so this pic is uber-rare. Again, it might have been a brand-sponsored event/gig.

True art needs extremes! And it’s even more extreme if you’re an introvert…
Oh I agree, but he still comes across in the book like a dick. I’ll chalk it up to “artistic temperament”

especially his “I do it how I want, not how you want” way
This was definitely one of his better qualities @Nebel - still, you have to weigh this alongside the friction he had with other bandmates and his endless brand promotion. He’s pretty open about the fact the was doing it for the money. Again nothing wrong with that but I always feel a slight pang when I reach for some merch…

Let me put it this way: Lemmy might have been a d#ck, but “just” he made art (or at least music). No harm done!
Some people are d#cks and make politics … harming “the world” a lot!
Dude, don’t push the boundaries with comments, however thinly veiled, about politics or religion. Those two rules of this forum are what keep this place special. Let’s keep it that way, please. Thanks.

Dude, don’t push the boundaries with comments
Understood & agree! I have edited my comment to a more generic version everybody can agree to!
I hear ya regarding the branding. It has become ridiculous. Personally I stay away from that side of the music business. I don’t need to wear a Motörhead thong or use some shitty Slayer cologne. I know streaming pays very little and album sales are way down. You resort to whoring you and your image out.

a Motörhead thong
Where can I get that? Asking for a friend
“Friend”? Come on now, mate

I don’t need to wear a Motörhead thong
Lol true. I was always amazed that Motorhead never really broke the big time until the 2010s…
Oh how did that get there?
Motörhead - I saw them twice, once supported by Girlschool and the second time, by The Damned. Both evenings were great, but with The Damned in support, oh wow!!
I don’t recall Motörhead thongs being on sale

Otherwise it would be in one of your videos, right?!

I think we should spare the world even thoughts of such an image!!
It’s too late, my friend! Now it’s out there
