Here’s a new thing in music.

QWER is a new band in Korea. People all over Asia are picking up instruments because of the, super influential.

They are KPOP. In a band.

Back story, their is this strange fitness mogul by the name of Kim Egg

who never reveals his face. Anyway, Kim was on vacation in Bali, in a bar, and this woman in the audience wasn’t pleased with the drummer in the bar band so she took over for a couple songs.

That was Chodan. Drummer, gamer, streamer. So Kim recruited her, and 3 other musician streamers to form a band KPOP style - living in a house as trainees. Added in they stream and play games. QWER comes from some hot keys in League of Legends.

They won a MAMA award for influential act last year - kind of like a Grammy.

Oh and product endorsement is a thing in KPOP

I don’t know how I feel about this. But it’s a 2025 kind of thing

Iggy Pop endorsed peanut butter in 1970!

“That’s peanut butter!”

One of my favorites. I still can’t believe they recorded a special cover version for this. I can believe that when they were forced to be in it in a “video”, they insisted on dressing like a hair metal band.

Gillian Gilbert looks kind of cool with the keytar

I’ve been finding a ton of great newer funk lately.

Teaching bass is all about connecting with what excites the student, whether that’s classic rock or modern hits. If the current material feels outdated, the key is to bridge the gap—use those older songs to teach fundamentals, then transition to the music they love. A great bassist can play anything, so blending timeless techniques with today’s songs keeps it fresh. Maybe work in some of your son’s favorite YouTube tracks alongside the classics to show how the skills transfer.

Music distribution evolves, but the groove stays the same!

Then the kids should simply go and find a course designed especially for their age with songs from Justin Bieber or whatever they’re listening to. This course is first and foremost designed for adults and I’m grateful for that because I despise teachers that want to talk to me like if I was a child. The course holds music from different times and different genres which I also don’t always like, but I’m also grateful for this because it has broadened my horizon. I’m sure that Josh carefully selected the songs for a reason, namely whether they serve a specific purpose and fit into the learning path, f. ex. songs which contain triads or roots, fifths, octaves and so on. Lastly, it’s absolutely impossible to find songs that serve the purpose of the course AND suit the personal taste of each and every subscriber.

Justin Bieber was a pop icon for a previous generation. I’m pretty sure he stopped being relevant before covid.

Music trends change constantly. If they wanted to keep up, they’d need to redo the course every couple years.

O - kay… I didn’t know that his time is already over. And tbh I have no idea what the kids are listening to nowadays, Bieber was only an example (but seemingly a badly selected example). :joy:

I’m only loosely aware.

The first artists that jump to mind are like Chappel Roan, Billie Eilish, and Tyler the Creator

As I understand - Kids listening to whatever they feel like. Regardless of when it was recorded. So they actually ARE listening to the bands that people complain about.

Out of curiosity, looking at monthly listeners on Spotify:

Billie Eilish: 92 million
Tyler the Creator: 51 million
Queen: 48 Million
Chappel Roan: 38 million
The Police: 36 million
Nirvana: 35 million
Journey: 22 million
Led Zeppelin: 20 million

So there you go. Queen and The Police are similarly popular to contemporary artists who have recently released popular albums.

Here’s David Byrne explaining that change:

Queen being that popular is insane, when you think about it. ‘A Night at the Opera’ came out in 1975. That’s 50 years ago! That’s like… I was in high school in the late 90’s. Imagine if Benny Goodman was more popular than the Smashing Pumpkins.

That is an amazing track suit and matching shoes David has. Very Devo actually, just needs an Energy Dome.

Wow. I haven’t expected that. But it’s actually a good sign that they’re not completely lost. Freddie Mercury himself has come to save their souls. :joy:
