Musicians/bands you respect but can't stand

Not my thing

Never said they weren’t talented or fun dudes, just not my bag musically.

Credit where due though, hard to argue with this one:

ugh that’s a terrible overcompressed remaster though.

No lie, one of my friends bought me tickets for a Van Halen tribute band a couple of weeks ago and I went to see the bass players setup for that venue. Hot for Teacher was a toe tapper.

Ends up bass player had Ampeg SVT head, Ampeg 2 x15 and 4 x10 cabinet. He was playing a Yamaha BB424 and just had a tuner pedal on his board.

Flea

After reading his book I realize what a despicable person he is (and a crappy writer).

Anybody mention AC/DC? I like a few of their songs, but not many.

Celine Dion. Amazing voice but no time for her music.

Isn’t his book only about his early life? He changed and mellowed out a lot over the course of the '90s.

Maybe so, but I can’t unread what I read.

The book got great reviews. Was planning on buying it. What’s so bad about it?

Go ahead and buy it, you may like it. I didnt care at all for it at all, but that’s my personal feeling. In my opinion, It’s poorly written, and the editing (or lack thereof) is equally bad. I’m far from being a prude, but I don’t need to read a book in which every other word is unnecessary profanity, or the highlight of the story is how many times a day he masturbates or ducks into a corner to shoot up. I made it a little over halfway through the book before I tossed it.

I can’t believe this thread is this long and no one has said two that instantly came to my mind: Peter Frampton and Ted Nugent.
I get what they accomplished musically, I totally respect their craft; but, I have a visceral reaction when I hear their music that makes me instantly want to turn the radio off.
I used to have the same reaction to various boy bands, but I’ve somehow learned to “turn off” the lyrics in my head and just listen to the music side of things and it doesn’t bug me as much as before. I can’t do that with Frampton and Nugent for some reason.

Also instant channel changers for me =
Sam Smith (great voice, can NOT stand his music–mostly for that whole stealing from Tom Petty thing)
Drake (a few nice tunes, just don’t dig it)
Starship (I respect for how popular they got, just never liked their stuff)
Pantera (I have no logical reason)

I have an entire genre that I have mad respect for but I just can’t get into it or I just don’t enjoy anything about it: opera. Oh, I’ve tried! I love me some classical music, love pretty much every kind of music to some degree. But, opera? No thank you.

How about a band I love that no one seems to dig: The Ocean Blue. They are way up there on my list of favorites, like not far from Led Zeppelin and the Beatles for me. No else I know seems to agree with me. So, “to each their own” as they say.

Musical likes/dislikes run the gamut. They are highly personal things.

But I’m right there with you regarding Frampton and Nugent. Rock-hard pass on both.

There are some musicians I will acknowledge have talent but I do no respect them, so I don’t mention them.

Not that I am surprised at the responses here, but I love most of the bands listed in this thread.

There are a few that I don’t care to listen to, but there are usually one or two songs they performed that I do like.

My musically tastes have changed over the years being a 60 something gal now, as an example, was not really a fan of country but find myself listening to a lot of it now. Still have not gotten into Rap or Hip Hop, but I think our musically interests come down to what “speaks” to us or what we relate to.

Not liking the Beatles or Zeppelin…blaspheme! Just kidding

Rush. Not my favorite whatsoever. And I like all kinds of weird/experimental music.
