My compressor pedal turned into a distortion pedal

Wondering if anyone has run into this one. I was practicing tonight and maybe an hour in, my tone sounded really weird so I paused the music and played and it sounded like I had distortion turned on.

I checked all of my gear… Nope.
I thought ok I have a new Joyo Monomyth EQ/distortion pedal plugged into the beginning of my chain (testing) so I pulled that and tried again. Still distortion.

So I thought maybe it was the batteries in my stingray and it was just bringing up weird stuff so I switched to my other guitar which is passive… Nope.

Just to be sure I pulled the back off of the pedal and there are no batteries in there. I’m running straight off of my pedal power.

Just wondering if this pedal is hosed. I’m going to try it out tomorrow and see if it’s a heat issue. This is the longest I’ve ever played on the pedal but that’s the last thing I can think of.

Maybe I could try it on battery in case my pedal wall wart got jealous over me looking at pedal power blocks on Amazon today…

I mean maybe I just keep it as a distortion pedal
The pedal is a Joyo Dyna compressor (green with a scorpion on the front).

If your level drop and distorted maybe it’s your bass. It can happens when you have a passive pickup and active preamp. If you have active pickup it would just be silence.

So I tired it on my Fender squire jaguar (passive)
and my sterling stingray which has the active EQ.

I’ve had cases where the stingray has overdriven stuff (playing rocksmith) but the level was at about 1/2 tonight and it did it with both basses pretty much the same.

Hmmm! What else do you have on your chain. Any gain up?

The monomyth pedal does have gain up but I completely removed it from the chain and nothing else was on. When I turned the compressor off the distortion completely disappeared.

The drive was off on my Rumble 40 and the gain was barely at 25%

I’ve never seen a diode look like this but I don’t think they explode like that

Top of the foil caps look ok

For anyone following along I asked around in a diy stomp box thread on Reddit and they sent me this which actually has instructions for how to convert the pedal into the one it was cloned from.

If I can get this one working again I might have to give it a shot.

I mean it’s a Dynacomp clone right? As are 80% of inexpensive compressor pedals. Very well known circuit.
