Fitted these nickel Rotosound strings to my Yamaha BB734a to replace a set of Daddario that came factory fitted. The same Rotosound strings came fitted to my 2nd hand G&L bass when I bought it. I really liked the feel and sound so decided to try them on my Yamaha. They give a lovely warm sound whilst maintaining the detail, they have a nice feel that I really like. I know we all may be after something different, but if you’re finding a lot of round wounds to be a bit bright and twangy and flats to be too far the other way, I’d recommend these. They are the perfect sound for me.

I bought a set to see what all the fuss is about. 
My preferred rounds are DR Sunbeam 45s and I think of the DRs the way you described the Roto 66s. I’ll try the Roto 66s next time I’m due for a change.

I, too, am going to try a set of these. Never played Rotos before. So, the LDN set (blue) and not the LD set (red).

Well, it took me a while to try these out, but I finally put them on my Squier Contemporary P. I admit that I wasn’t a fan for the first few hours - still too twangy for my taste. But once they settled in, they sound great! I liked ‘em so much, I used ‘em for my cover of Money in the 50 songs challenge.
I still love the DR Sunbeams, but I’ll keep a set of these on hand. Thank you for the recommendation!

That’s kind of the problem (is it really a problem, though?) with bass strings. You can go years between needing string changes, so it’s hard to cycle through a bunch to try different ones, and by then you’ve probably forgotten what the previous ones were like to compare! It’s really only if you want to spend money for the heck of it or purposefully try different things looking for a certain feel or sound.

It’s funny how this works. First strings I tried were D’Addario EXL, next were NYXL, and third were Elixir Nanowebs. I have tried several others since but those are still my three faves.

I have these Rotos on my Jazz bass. I found that there are a bit rougher on the fingers at first, but you get used to it quickly (or build better calluses). They sound lovely and warm with a little bit of bite.

It’s probably (past) time for me to change the strings on my basses. The two that I have an idea of when they were “installed” are both over a year. And the other one I have no idea but the definitely weren’t new when I got the bass 7 months ago.
Anywho, the Schechter is string through only. Does that change the strings I need to look for? Do I need to look for “super long” strings instead of “long” for a regular (not short-scale) bass? Or does the string though not really add any length compared to top loading on the bridge?

If they’re rounds, probably time. It likely doesn’t change the strings you’re looking for. There are a few exceptions, but the ones off the top of my head are fitting short scale strings on a string through. I have to pay attention to that on my Reverend Wattplower. Luckily, normal scale 105 - 50 Elixirs cut down to whatever length I need.
@Vader you probably need super longs for your Schecter. It’s what they specify for many of their basses on their website. They do also state that the Evil Twin can be top load too.
I’m a fan of NYXL’s and TI Jazz flats. Tried Elixir’s nickel - not really my thing, Didn’t like the coating so much and should have tried the stainless. I’m gonna try Labella’s super polished stainless rounds next.
Huh. So it can. I had looked before and wasn’t seeing it cause the end of the bridge has a different look than what my others have–it’s more of an ‘open’ look–and didn’t put two and two together. Plus when I got it it was already strung through.
These were on my list of ones to look at. Becky Baldwin of Mercyful Fate uses NYXL and I like her. Was also looking at the Dunlop Robert Trujillo strings, since I’m a big Metallica fan.
I haven’t changed my TI Jazz (flats or Super Long Rounds) in years. No need. They play and sound superb.
I put some DR Marcus Miller stainless on my Sire V8 as a test. They feel rough as a cob compared to my TI rounds.
I’ve tried NYXLs but they sounded like longer-lasting plain old D’Addario to my ears. I’ve got a shelf full of other brands of strings but I’m more than happy with my TIs. YMMV

Heh, same here though mostly of the early Cliff Burton stuff. Working on Orion now. His speed is challenging particularly in tunes like The Four Horsemen, Creeping Death, etc.!
Yeah, I’ve got multiple cliff songs in the “i can play it at half speed” bucket. Been thinking maybe I need to start a black metal Metallica cover band where playing them that slow is expected lol.
