Today is Valentine’s Day, and for me it marks the 50 year mark that my wife and I formally met.
This morning after breakfast I reached into my jeans and pulled out what I wanted to give her for this Valentine’s Day….
As I held it in my hand, she looked at it and with a somewhat disgusted look said…. “What do you expect me to do with that old shriveled up thing??!!”….
So, I just stuffed that $20 bill back into my jeans and went on with my day……
Work…. After 7 years in the Navy as a diesel mechanic on old diesel electric submarines, I spent 15 years as a Caterpillar as a Marine Analyst working the fishing fleet out of Washington State and Alaska. Then accepted a position with the Department of the Interior as a Facilities Chief. Moving around at that point was the only way to advance within pay grades - which plays heavily into the Federal Government’s retirement pension calculations. So, work….
All “Favorites” at that time of my life. Would I ever go “back” to live at any of those places again?? Probably not… Besides, that rear view mirror only takes up a very small portion of the front windshield… Whole lot more to look forward to (even at my age) than there is to see looking back… For now, right here in Southern Georgia USA is our “Happy Place”…
