Neck Dive only when sitting

I have a new Fender American Professional II Precision Bass Guitar. I use a Neotech Mega Strap which is 4 inches wide. When I stand there is no neck dive. When I sit without the strap there is neck dive. When I sit down while using the strap and it’s under tension there is neck dive. What I ended up doing was following a YouTube video where the person ran the strap through his belt and the neck dive becomes impossible at that point. I would prefer not to do that.

So basically the neck dive while sitting is distracting. I’m coming along great with the lessons. I think the course is phenomenal and the teaching method is just perfect for me. If I could eliminate that distracting neck dive while sitting I would be able to concentrate more rather than have neck dive be an issue. The belt thing works. But it’s very inconvenient.

Any ideas in what I should do here?

practice standing up?

Maybe shorten the strap? Knees are below your hips when seated, right?

That would work but I’m 65 years old and sitting to practice is important to me. It is a definite solution though.

Whoa! Wait a minute. I followed your advice and I just shortened the strap and it worked. No more neck dive while sitting. I’ll find out more tomorrow when I put it through a full practice session but right now I’m encouraged. Thank you very much K_Miller.
