Hey all. I have a Squier CV 60s P bass that I bought last year. I thought it had an issue with the neck pocket in the past, but it turned out to be a non-issue.
Anyway, it’s my least played bass so I changed strings to breathe new life into it before deciding to sell it or not.
I put new LaBella DTB 39/96s on and tuned it up. E, A & D strings sound great and I love the tension. They tune just fine and intonation is perfect. However, while the G string sounds good and tunes fine open, intonation is horribly flat. It starts to go flat on the second fret and gets worse from there. I have the bridge out as far as it can go to make the string as short as possible and it’s still flat.
Do I have a bad string? Not enough tension? I can’t figure it out. I’m seeking help from the hive for my next troubleshooting step(s) before putting the D’Addario chrome flats back on. I didn’t have this issue before the new strings.
Bridge photo and side photo at the 12th fret (unfretted) just to show I don’t have crazy high action.
Bad strings are hard to diagnose. I had a similar issue, bad g string with labella flatwounds. I took it to 3 luthiers before it got figured out. Maybe its coincidence or just a labella thing but dang they sound good once they break in.
I had a buzzing D string and nothing I tried fixed it. Last thing I could try was new strings and yep, all gone. These were strings from a Donner (cheap) bass, however.
