That was me too. I used to press hard and push the B string (5 string) off the fret board. Now I press straight down. Problem solved. In addition, I began making sure I pressed down right behind the fret and used only enough pressure to stop the string. Really saved my hand AND improved my tone. Hope you find this helpful
I have a Tribute and the first thing about it, is it weight. I do like it though, definitely a lot lighter than my Steve Harris fender!
