New bass (short scale)

I’ve been playing an Epiphone EB-3 for about 4 months, and if I was sensible I should probably just stick with it - it’s a perfectly good bass for my current standard of playing (just started Module 8 in B2B). But of course I got the urge to look at shiny new basses  and I thought I’d have a go with a short scale …

After a bit of looking around, watching/reading reviews etc, I homed in on the Ibanez GSRM20 - put an order in and just got it a couple of days ago :sunglasses:

It feels so tiny compared to the Epiphone! but it fits me really well I think. I followed @JoshFossgreen’s excellent guide to bass setup, and have been playing it for a little while now. It sounds a bit beefier on the low-end to me and feels easier to play than the Epiphone (though that may be “new bass” bias ). I’ve still got to get used to the different dimensions a little, but overall I’m very happy with the purchase - it seems like a great bass for the money (£168 UK).

I’ve heard people change out the stock pickups, so that’s something I may look at in the future, but I’ll leave it all stock for now to get used to it I think.

I have this one as well as a Blackstar Travel Bass which is even smaller. Satisfied with both!

And it arrived in time for the Easter Weekend, so four days with plenty of time to play and enjoy it  Absolutely loving it thus far!

They are so adorable.

If you ever come to Japan I guarantee I can convince you to leave with one of the tiny ESP’s too, same vibe.

Don’t forget the awesome 27" Valiant Mini Bass from Ukraine. Mine plays and sounds great, up and down the fretboard. Those two brothers crafted almost 100% of that bass. I had a custom length set of Pyramid Gold flats made for it.
