These things sound so good. I’m a sucker for a nice burst. This is the best looking Stingray I’ve seen and I’m tempted to get one, but something about the pick guard on Stingray’s is so unattractive to my eye.
Well, I was going to ask what the matter was with this burst… Is it good or not really? The black lingers on for a bit too long, doesn’t it?!?
It looks like a solar eclipse burst
funny thing, i saw a thread on FB the day the lineup was released and everyone was complaining about the price of the icon, which was $6000. when i clicked over to music man to look at it, it was sold out. a few hours after release.
Too much black; too dark for me. I would never trade my 2021 Tim Commerford passive shorty (#23 of 50) for it. I just love my T.C. 'ray with the finger ramp and the old style bridge with the individual string mutes. I bought it “used”, as in “played once and returned”. It still had the protective plastic on the pickguard. Who buys a bass this expensive and then returns it immediately? But I was happy. I’d been searching for one for a couple of years, and found this one in a shop in Estonia. Being “used”, it saved me the 20% VAT. [Photo by the seller. That sofa is a long way from my cup of tea. ]
“Solved” lol hardly. Clear does not equal invisible. Contrasting color is the only saving grace the pick guard offers.
No offense to anyone that likes them. They just look low effort to me. A boring blob that doesn’t accent any body lines. Just a random shape in the middle of nothing. It’s all personal opinion. I don’t like pick guards in general. Don’t see the point on a bass. And the ones I do like, others think look goofy. That’s how it goes
“the egg” is just an iconic MM thing. you either love it or hate it. a stingray never looks like a stingray to me without one which is why i hate that they changed it with 5 strings.
