Wir Sind Helden has some cool/fun tunes, at least the first 2 albums

Farin Urlaub’s (from Die ärzte) first solo album is fun and he plays in different styles (The Smiths, etc), it’s called Endlich Urlaub! (2005).

Juli has some solid rock, as does Silbermond

I would have recommended “Die Perfekte Welle”, “Über den Wolken”, “Griechischer Wein” and, if you feel up to it, “Superjeile Zick” by Brings.

Here’s a list, the keywords being Lagerfeuerlieder auf Deutsch, i.e. campfire songs in German:

I don’t know what your experience in Bayern/with Bavarians is - and we’re going heavy on stereotypes anyway - but the sentiment is that Bayern is NOT Germany, it’s better! A bit like Texas, to make a comparison on the other side of the pond…
They have their special Christian-conservative party (although closely aligned to the German one) to prove it!
And BMW to confirm it! :grimacing:

I lived in Augsburg many moons ago, and worked in München many times when I was a consultant. I got to the point where I could get by in Bayerisch and Schwäbisch. Your comment comparing the mindset in Bayern to the mindset in Texas made me laugh because it was so spot on. I spent the first 10 years of my life in Texas and was fortunate to “escape” before the Texas mindset became fully ingrained.

One note about BMV: about 25 years ago, I drove past their huge design center. The monster parking lot was filled with Audis! I figured if their design engineers wouldn’t own their current cars, neither would I.

But back in '71, I was saving money for a BMV 2002 Alpina. I got to drive one once, and LOVED it! It was so much fun to drive on the mountain roads across the border in Austria.

Regarding Bavaria/Bayern - it’s one of the Alpine states and has beautiful landscapes, historic city centers (as not everything was bombed to ashes down there in WWII).

My guess is that people there are more traditional because industrialization came late to Bayern. For many years after WWII, it was one of the poorest states and lived on subsidies by the other states. I would guess that “northerners” came to Bavaria and were annoying: patronizing, richer, and with different dialects.

Nowadays, the roles are reversed, which, in combination with “social” media, leads to bad relations.

For me… my grandma was Bavarian, her husband from the Baltic sea. So, I like Bavaria and know how to talk to people there: put on my thickest Rhineland dialect and say “I also don’t speak German that well.”
