(Not only) German famous and easy songs to jam along to

Morgen zusammen

I brought some musical toys to the office on Thursday and we improvised a jam session which went surprisingly well considering the complete lack of preparation…
But except for a couple of “4-chord songs,” I don’t know enough German or German-adjacent songs that are easy enough to sing, too.

More in detail, a colleague is a great fan of Die Ärtze, whose songs are pretty simple to adapt on the bass on the fly, but the singing is usually beyond my skill… and also because I only know the 3/4 of them I heard on the radio. Nobody else took on the honor/challenge to sing along, so I had to try myself

So, if we are to try this again - and it seems we will - I need some input. Of course, I asked them, but let’s try here as well:
What are popular songs (ideally in German - but not necessarily) that you would expect anybody to know, to be able to play on guitar, or that could be learnt in a few minutes, singing included?
I don’t mind preparing and learning new stuff, but I’m not sure the others would want to put more than minimal effort into it. At least just yet…

I have no good answers to your question, but I am curious as to what sort of office you work in where jam sessions are allowed.

That’s a good question
It’s a very small (and chill) tech/software company. The boss used to play drums himself, and it was the last 30/40 minutes before closing for the easter holidays.

It’s either a very long list or a hard party to recover from

Very very hard party. Friends came over to chill and are now looting the house

Will respond tomorrow.

Took some time to get rid of my friends … Eastern is always the time where they come and have a loooong after hour until they get thrown out

So, it’s always good to play some “Neue Deutsche Welle”, like this:

I play “Goldener Reiter” by Joachim Witt quite a lot as well as “Major Tom” by Peter Shilling. Both are great!

Of course, you can always go Rammstein (which I hate) or German “Hiphop”, like Phantastische Vier.
Ärzte is also very popular … but EVERYBODY knows some Neue Deutsche Welle Songs…

Well,

“99 Luftballons” – Nena
An anthem of the Neue Deutsche Welle. Easy open chords.

“Du hast” – Rammstein
Heavy, industrial riff—perfect for palm muting and electric tone practice.

“Ich will” – Rammstein
Heavy but straightforward—great for precision and tone.

I have some favorite songs from Die Ärtze and Die Toten Hosen but I don’t expect someone to know them.

Hey, hey! Know them both and like them both. Who can forget “Eisgekühlter Bommerlunder”! Not that I’d want to cover it.

And after 3 days, he rose again! Unlike the Pope…

There are some good suggestions, thank you all.
I do not do Rammstein, but Ärtze and Toten Hosen are definitely among the popular bands I would consider if I knew more than three of their songs. I’m adding some random titles of theirs to my playlists

To explain it another way, I do not particularly need German covers or lyrics.
Suggestions ideally belong to the intersection of pop/folk songs popular in Germany (or your best guesses, there are no wrong answers here ) and easy to learn and sing along… basically campfire songs with Lederhosen
(I know, I know, Bayern is not Germany! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: )

That’s absolutely not my kind of music!

But @BozzerWolf is a 1000% Lederhosen fan … also he likes Schlager and Karnevalsmusik

Hahaha! I had better visitors … so that’s why I could rise up

Unless you’re in Bayern. They think Bayern IS Germany, and everybody else talks funny and drinks Kinderbier (I’m trying to be nice with that made-up word).

Geschwisterliebe?!? Claudia?!? or just Arschloch?

At that time I was more into Wizo and Die Toten Hosen but „Die Roten Rosen“ kommt dem schon sehr nah😀
