Not sure where to put this

Hi fam!

I wasn’t sure where to put this, but I’m trying to get a little bit of exposure for my 14 year old guitarist nephew. He’s been playing for about 6 years in total, but really got serious about 3 years ago. Currently he’s in 3 different projects and working with a few different teachers/mentors.

At any rate, his YouTube channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/@MasonKutin - some views, likes and subs would help him out greatly. He’s also on TikTok and Instagram.

His current release is an original song that he wrote, please watch the monetized version here:

This is the more “fun” video posted to his channel. I think my brother used some sort of AI art for the video posted here, but he said the other link was monetized, this one isn’t shrug: https://youtu.be/NJaOfaFhkSo?si=5BWPvvf0OpoBCAgj

Ric Fierabracci performed bass on the track and recorded/mixed it in his studio. Thomas Lang performed drums. 2 definite studio talents in the music industry. Primary guitar teacher is Marco Villarreal, but Mason also works closely with the bass player Ric (with a focus on timing, rhythm and tightening his playing), and he’s also been working with a guitarist for a very well known band that has the word “project” in the band name (sorry, I cannot say more than that) who is assisting my nephew with stage presence, and general performance “flair”.

Please give the kid some support and love, if you can. I appreciate it!

Please move the topic somewhere more appropriate if needed.

Very talented kid and quite the heavy-weight rhythm section he got there. Looks like he is on a fast track to becoming a professional musician.

This may not be my place, but one point of criticism (and it is really criticizing his mentors who should know better): there is a bit too much going on in the tune… less would have been more. This sounds way harsher than I mean it to be - if I had had this kind of talent at 14 (or 20 or 30) years old, I would have done the same, namely putting a lot of ideas in there and “showing off” my talents. So, yeah, any 14-year old is prone to do that… and, thus, again, I think his mentors should have helped him in toning it down a notch…

It’s hard, I know…

All the best for his future career!!

I have a similar critique of his playing at the moment, for example, when one of his bands plays “Purple Rain” he’s shredding it a bit too much. One example of many. But in the last year, he’s gotten into Yngwie, Satriani, Eric Johnson, etc. So, yeah, getting a bit shreddy when he should be laying back a bit.

If he doesn’t know them already, you could introduce him to some of the more “mellow” shredders, such as

Owane (his real name is Øjvind, but nobody can pronounce that correctly):

Jack Gardiner:

Lari Basilio:

and, of course, Plini:

Thanks. I’ll point him to them.
