Other hobbies?

Especially since:

A US company has successfully landed its spacecraft on the moon, marking only the second private mission to achieve the milestone – and the first to do so upright.

Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost Mission 1 touched down at 8.34am GMT [ed: Sun 2 Mar 2025] near Mons Latreille, a volcanic formation in Mare Crisium on the moon’s north-eastern near side.

The mission control team in Austin, Texas, erupted in cheers as the firm’s CEO, Jason Kim, confirmed that the spacecraft was “stable and upright”.

That stood in stark contrast to the first private lunar landing in February 2024, from Texas-based Intuitive Machines, which toppled over upon arrival, dulling the achievement of being the first US moon touchdown since the crewed Apollo 17 mission of 1972.

Blue Ghost’s programme manager, Ray Allensworth, highlighted the precision of the landing, noting it touched down within 100 metres of its target.

“We did do two hazard avoidance manoeuvres on the way down – that tells us that our software did work exactly as it needed to,” she told reporters.

Maybe you’ll be able to spot it?

I read about that yesterday; very cool! I will definitely take a look!

I’ve been an archer for about 50 years, bowhunted a little. Also play golf. I’ve been told that I’m a horrible golfer, but that I’m great company on the course. Used to bowl (ten pin), and lawn bowls as well. Being retired, travel is a major interest. Even though I’m an America, I am a Chelsea football fan.

Well, that’s indeed a problem: combining bass and other hobbies

  1. I have a Willys Jeep 1942 and keep it riding
  2. WW2 Re-enactment, especialy the 1st Polish Armoured Division.
  3. I am a Reserve Non-Commissioned officer, so doing quite some Army time above my regular job.
  4. Writing a history book.
  5. Shooting my Long-Rifle .22, Buckmarck .22 pistol, or my Lee Enfield 1942 at the shooting stand.

My favorite hobby is driving my daughter around the east coast to various youth bowling tournaments. I also have a couple of bird dogs. Spaniels to be specific.

I’ve been and artist for most of my life. Was a graphic designer for 30 years.

Too many hobbies. I draw, paint, make jewelry, sew (plus other things I’ve dabbled in)… been a while since some of those.

Music is an art form I am now exploring.

The midlife crisis continues. According to my spouse, picking up the bass was the start.

Fulfilled a bucket list dream I’ve had since I was about 15. Passed my MSF Safety course and now the proud owner of a Kawasaki Z500 SE.

I am so jealous, of both getting a bike now and the fact that you get to have the “first bike” experience.

Great choice, I love Kawasaki twins; I’ve owned a few EX-500’s myself. Such fun little thumpers.

I’m doing digital art most of my days.
It’s also my job, but i still love to do it for myself mainly.
Here are some lil guys i did recently:

Fitting to the bass topic, I’m also a fan of 90ies Twiggy from Marilyn Manson, so i draw fanart from time to time.

Fabulous. I only rode motorcycles until my late 20s (road/track/motocross). Took my car driving test at age 29 I think.

I’ve banned myself from ever having another bike because, well I know myself too well. Barry Sheen said that the throttle goes both ways but what would he know.

It’ll start out sensibly on a Z500 and before long It’ll be back to a GSX-R 1100 and a driving ban!

Little bit jealous :sunglasses:

I never had a motorbike, but I’ve ridden high 50s mph downhill weaving through other riders racing pedal bikes and I don’t need that option any time I twist my wrist.

cute, but not even close to the same feeling as cracking the throttle on a big bike.

Yeah. I’m a liter-bike guy too and can verify. Ripping it open and having to fight a wheelie when you are already speeding is a rush.

Wife has banned me from riding and tbh it’s probably a good thing. Next up for me would be a YZF-R1, I have wanted one for 25 years.

You’re just reinforcing my point that I would kill myself.

Oh Yess motorcycles… Big fan ! been riding and working on Bikes for over 30 years now.
Loved track riding , always found the most dangerous moment was riding home on the public road after a few sessions on the track

Not doing that anymore, now I ride a nice big comfortable bike .

I once found myself without a racecar, having gotten out of the hobby. I had maybe 3 motorcycles in the garage at the time. Mentioned to my wife that I was thinking of perhaps buying some motorcycle leathers and taking one of them to the track.

So anyway, that’s how I ended up with a new racecar. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That is a nice looking bike! 500cc is a good size, and I like the choice of the T-handle bars rather than sportbike clipons.

I had a Triumph Street Triple many years ago. (But I got it when I lived on the coast in California, and riding got a lot less fun when I moved to the middle of Ohio.)

That is also a very nice way to get back into your hobby
Treatening to do the same thing on a bike

Haha, I do have a bit of an inner speed demon and making it out to some track days is definitely a second milestone on this bucket list.

The YZF-R1 is gorgeous, I was dead set on a Honda Fireblade like Barney’s when I was younger but there are quite a few others that have caught my eye in my recent perusings. Like the Ducati’s.

Ha! I bet it was. I hope to add a pic of me doing that to my collection one day before I get too old to do the craziness.

I sat on a touring bike in the store and I could barely touch the floor… lol.

Lol! Couple of my work colleagues race cars as well, our boss just groaned when he found out I had joined the ‘high potential of serious injury’ side.

I had to google that and now see what you mean, definitely prefer the T bar as well. especially as that’s where I just put the phone mount. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
