And riot and loot ![]()
…and get the 'rona
Oh yes, I just got into the 1000-8000 whetstones. I haven’t dared touch the kitchen knives yet, but my chisels are murderous.
Yeah but I would still go and do it.!!!
Have to agree…20-30 years ago we wouldnt have stood for it at all…somehow authority got a foothold and we comply too easily. ( not that this is a political sight…apologies to other readers!!!) but look on the bright side…plenty of time for hobbies and trying to playing bass!!!
You are 100% right @derekmac
@MC-Canadastan @howard
Dear lord, it’s frightening to know I’m not the only one with a fixation, ahem, appreciation of kitchen knives and whetstones. I’m, um fussy, about those things. At one point I had 53 chefs knives. It was research — and all tax deductible
.
I still have what my wife refers to as my “rock collection” a very large plastic container, the kind of thing you store sweaters in, with stones ranging from 200 grit to 16,000 grit, as well as diamond spray, leather strops, felt pads, micro mesh, and just about every other bit of nonsense you can throw at the issue.
These days I restrain the lunacy with a 1000/6000 King stone and a 2000 Shapton. They live under the kitchen sink and are for once-every-couple-of-moths use. About twice a year I haul out the rock collection and do every knife in the house. That leads to a week or two of worn-through calluses and bloody fingertips
Hey, at least it’s not a thumb detected with a 20 oz. Estwing thumb indexer!
BTW. At those times does your wife talk to you? When I get into an OCDIY mode, my Missus refuses to interact with me.
She’s a bit restrained until she tries the kitchen knives and goes, “ooh, nice!”
But, yeah, until then it’s bemused tolerance at best. After 21 years she knows I’m nuts and has made her peace with it.
My wife insists I do it
So, I don’t want to get into knife sharpening to the level that you guys have, but I would like to know how to do it. Is there any “bassbuzz for knife sharpening”
Seriously though, like a tutorial that explains “here’s what you need and here’s how to do it”.
Like, I don’t want it to be a hobby - I just want sharp knives
In the end, it’s just rubbing metal on rocks
Well I tried but the year and date are too vague to establish anything specific.
Looks like it was shot to the SSW.
If you can find the original shot(s) the date and time should be on the file(s).
Did you use a tracker or stack multiple images?
Time consuming isn’t it?
I always record the Date, Time, Lens focal length, ISO, Aperture, Exposure time, Number of shots and whether I used my tracker or not.
Again, thanks for trying ![]()
Fantastic shots @BK . Especially love the Milky Way shot. Did you use a ND for the waterfall?
You can also make “ooga-ooga” noises and caper around the kitchen, but it’s optional.
In short, if you don’t want it to be a hobby, find a good local knife sharpening service. I hate to admit it, but it’s just like doing a setup on your bass. If you don’t feel comfortable, or only need it done every once in a while, get a recommendation for a good local sharpener. In the US, Sur La Table kitchen stores and JoAnne Fabrics usually have someone decent they can recommend. And in most major cities there is a standalone service. In Raleigh, where I live, the best local guy has a booth at the state farmer’s market.
If you really, really want to do it yourself, this book doesn’t suck. The information is a little dated at this point, but the basics are all there. Buy it used, if you can.
That’s how I’m looking at it. It’s too depressing to dwell on it - I’d hate to be a politician in charge ATM - if you lock people down you’re killing off business, music/art and damaging people’s mental health. If you let it rip you’re destroying the health system, killing people and still damaging people’s mental health. There does not seem to be any right answer - except to get people vaxed (but let’s not open that can of worms).
So, nothing else to do but control what you can control … and in my case that is playing the bass with great mediocrity.
You’re doing good……”great mediocrity!!”…….im only aiming for “mediocrity” at the very most……good luck
Hi all, nice subject
Besides playing bass(2,5year) I am a ham radio amateur. And try to repair electronics, with start playing bass I buy defect bassen and amps of a online marketplace, fix it. If it works than use it.
After a while I sell it again. Adjusting tuning and modifying.
A lot of woodworking and diy with classic cars.
