Other hobbies?

It’s bear season here in Rossland, BC. So does watching bears count as a hobby?
Here’s one from tonight, wanting to come in for dinner

Here’s another couple of Black Bears from last week stealing the remaining pears from the tree in my yard!

Pairs of bears with pears.

are they friendly or will they attack???

Black Bear attacks are very rare. The only time you’re in trouble is if there are little cubs and mum will protect them. Seems reasonable to me. These guys stealing pears are harmless

Sadly those bears will probably end up “destroyed” by wildlife officers.

Isn’t cooking edible chemistry with inimaginable efforts on presentation?

Mine is more on the lines of a miracle when it comes out right @franx :joy:

I have to choose my words wisely. The mother of my son is a scientist. My ex-wife no. 2 is a chef. Both actually enjoyed my cooking (hopefully most of the time) but not always my cynical sense of humor, like my comment before.
Talking about hobbies…

Wow, that’s awesome. We don’t have bears here, but you don’t have wallabies there. So, in the interest of cultural exchange, here is a pic of a smallish guy outside my house this morning.

But do they eat pears in pairs?

Late to this (excellent) thread, so here are my three main hobbies outside of the bass.

  1. Chess. I used to play to a high club standard. I gave up competing though, as it took up too much time. Over the years I’ve drawn games with a couple of IMs (International Masters - one step below Grandmasters) and beaten a couple of FMs (FIDE Masters, the next step below IMs) - but also lost quite a lot more often to such titled players. Nowadays, I just consume chess passively but passionately via YouTube commentators on the major tournaments. It still takes up a lot of my time!

  2. Drums. I play rock drums in up to 3 covers bands at any one time. I’ve been playing since my father taught me when I was 14 (I’m now 55) and I reckon I’m a decent/solid dive bar drummer although nowadays with a dodgy back. My son (15 years old) is very proficient (to put it mildly) and part of my drumming hobby has morphed into recording/producing his drumming performances, such as (most recently):

  1. Photography. Well I feel embarrassed to say this after seeing the superb efforts on this thread already. I’m enthusiastic without being very good. Here are a couple of shots taken from my balcony (yes, my apartment overlooks Hong Kong International Airport):

That’s all. I’m surprised I have any time to pick up a bass guitar, now that I think of it.

That’s a really nice setup, @NipperDog . . . reminds me of my good old 70’s setup. I didn’t have a TV but I had a great Marantz receiver/ amplifier, Klipschorn speakers, tape deck, and Dual turntable etc. etc.

Thanks for the memories! . . .

Cheers
Joe

Thanks Jazzbass, I have it set up in a spare bedroom. When my wife wants to watch TV, she does that in the living room and I can relax in my sanctuary and either listen to music or practice the bass.

BTW, I really would have loved to have one of those “His Master’s Voice” dog sculptures back then! It would have been so cool :sunglasses:

I suppose I’m reliving my past life these days . . . lol

Man… I think I said it before, but your son is really talented! Taking on these odd meters, changing meters type of songs… he’s got a bright future in fusion

That first picture looks like the same area that you get in one of the “screen savers” on an Apple TV - pretty cool!

That all beckons the question: how do you fit a drum set into a Hong Kong apartment? :joy:

Thanks. :slightly_smiling_face:
The acoustic drums are in my office.
My son practices on a Roland electronic set in the front room. He also has a bass, which he never touches

LOL, it’s funny because when we first brought our dog home from the shelter, he growled at the Nipper figurine when he first saw it. It took a few minutes before he realized it wasn’t real.
