P Bass (Sire P5) and Jazz Bass (CV)?

If you want it and you can afford it, it’s worth getting a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) bass at any level and they’re probably not going to get any cheaper

If getting another bass, whether it be your second instrument or an @Al1885 -level innumerable+1, it’s a wise choice as long as it keeps you inspired to play.

Or get lighter tuners and a second bass. They’re not mutually exclusive.

Do what makes sense for you financially and will bring you the most joy. Which could be a second bass, or spending that money on something else. You do you.

Also… I bought my second bass after like 4 months of playing. Once I knew I was definitely keeping this as a hobby and it wasn’t just a passing thing.

My only concern with that is it’s a 4” strap. I’ve had issues with other 4” straps, and preferred 3”.

…but I think those were cheap leather and had an edge that dug into my neck.

I owned a Neo and it was super super good. My only issue with it was it was too smooth.

I ended up with a Comfort Strapp Pro Bass and I like it much more. Best strap I have owned, and handmade by a small maker in Cali.

These are my faves. The leather is good / soft enough that nothing digs in, but wide enough to distribute the weight without the bulk of the neoprene straps.

Plus, they’re hand made in Nova Scotia :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I have one of those.

I also have the Comfort Strapp that @howard mentioned above.

I like the Comfort Strapp better of the two. I was curious how the SoloStrap compares.

It’s kind of like a more slippery Comfort Strapp

I’ve got a solostrap (no comfort strap). I’d say if you’ve got a bass over 10 / 11 lbs without any neck dive, the solo is a godsend for your shoulders. For me, the bulk of the neoprene bugs me after a bit. It’s a great strap though if you’re playing a chonker.

If you get as ripped as @howard and me then you’ll find the 4” is fine.

If you develop your trapezoids, then it’s all gravy :joy:

it’s from lifting my BB, it is not the bass for a weak man

Another Marcus Miller jazz bass…

Hey Al1885, are there any extra Marcus’s around?
mij or mim, I love them both..

Wait. No… I got a different, cheaper Levy’s strap. This one.

Thanks all so much for your helpful comments. Such a great community this is: love it.

There is only 1lb difference in weight and, seeing as I am not going to be gigging, I may well leave the Sire and keep the credit card happy…or less unhappy.

Thanks again!

It sounds like you want a second bass, and you would like the Sire P5 (likely more than the Squier), but you’re not sure you would love the P5. That is totally legitimate

In which case - leave yourself open to finding that next bass that you know you will LOVE. Don’t avoid buying it out of a sake of feeling you need to be “responsible” or whatever. (But don’t subject yourself to financial hardship if it truly is more expensive than you’re up for buying.)

And don’t expect to ever find The Perfect Bass. Having a small collection that do different things for you is very common.

(But if you do want something that will definitely be a lot lighter, I’m trying to sell my Ibanez SR1600b. Which is only 7.8lbs.)

Thank you @BeerBaron . Sage words and, funnily enough, what was going through my mind an hour ago! Shall I hold off for now and give myself a chance to see what bass it is I REALLY want.

Don’t know much about the 1600b. A lefty, I presume?

No. Righty. I’ll PM you the details.

Boo! Us poor Southpaws.
