Phil Jones BG-120 Cub Pro just arrived yesterday

After 30 plus years of using my trusty ole GK MB150S which replaced my GK MB 200 combo prior I’m getting older and the appeal of something lighter that will do the job I ask of it which is to be my on stage monitor and line out to the PA as I have with the GK for all these years and to use at practices, jams and small little gigs finally got to me. I ordered the Red BG-120 and it came yesterday afternoon, I unboxed it and immediately connected my Eminence Electric Upright to it and man what a surprise to hear a great sounding tone immediately with all eq settings at 12 oclock. Set up my GK MB150S right beside it and switched back and forth between amps and they sound oh so close at the same settings, with some tweaking I really had a hard time hearing the difference. 10lbs lighter, way smaller speakers………smaller overall truly outstanding. Volumes on both amps pretty much set the same and the loudness sounds to be about the same. First impression is wow this is exciting. Should totally do what I ask of the little combo amp, the GK may get a long rest. Can’t wait to try it on a gig..

Welcome aboard. That seems to answer the question you were asking in your head. Some rig pics please for those of us who enjoy such things. ;^)

Genuine question. I’ve always thought they looked cool. How loud can it go with just two 5” speakers. A quiet drummer? brushes? Don’t need another amp but just interested.

Haven’t had a chance to try it out at a gig but messing with it here at the house I am going to say it pumps it out at the same levels as my GK MB150S I’ve used for 30 plus or more years. Clean distortion free…. I’ve never needed anything more than my GK in all these years when on stage AS I’ve always lined out the amp to the PA using the GK as our monitor on stage. Rarely have we had bass in the monitors with the exception of a few really big Folk Festivals where they’ve got 6 or 8 massive subs sitting just out front of the stage. So from what I’m hearing thus far I can’t see any reason this little thing won’t do the same job as the GK and save my shoulders & back 10lbs of weight and save space in the RV & vehicle for other gear. BTW the signal to the PA/Sound people has always been Post Eq… Never a complaint from the many many different sound people.

F’ing loud - 120W by itself, 240W with an additional cab (I have a C4 cab just for kicks).

My old bass instructor gigs with just the base unit and his Yamaha electric upright, so it’s loud enough for jazz trio-ish settings I guess.

These speakers are the work of a magical genius.

That makes sense, so you’re using it as you own on stage monitor. They look really cool but I don’t need another amp

If you look at my profile I think the one pic showed up. Don’t know how to post others on this forum…
