Just wrapped on Module 13 tonight. I got stopped dead in my tracks by “Boogie Oogie Oogie” in a way “Billie Jean” could never. It’s a song I quite like but for days I could either play it full speed with a metronome or at medium with song. However I could not for the life of me play it at full speed with the song. It was frustrating to say the least. I finally got in one messy loop at full speed with the song and called it done and moved on to finish the module without any further Boogie flavored drama.
Cut to yesterday I was listening to music while cleaning the house and recognized in the bassline that it was using both chromatic and scale walkups while adding some octaves in for flavor. Sitting down to play new song tab a lightbulb of “aha! I see what you’re doing there with those walkups, octaves and fifths.” I’ve played music my whole life and never been able to just do that.
I wanted to share this for anyone else who has hit a plateau and is struggling. Hang in there yeah? If you’re putting the hours in you’re gonna see the benefits even if sometimes it feels like you’ve it a wall.
Miss Boogie and I still might need some time apart tho…
