Playing over pick-ups

Is there a lesson on playing over one pick-up or the other? I’m just about to start M4 and I’m just curious. I’m trying to stick with the course and not just go to BassBuzz on YouTube. Which is probably an acceptable option but I’ve set a process for myself so…

Not sure what you mean?
Playing over pickups is just as acceptable as playing in front of or behind them. All give different tonal qualities based on your desired sound. Picks over pickups can be tricky and would be avoided I suppose as to not to beat the heck out of the covers.

Only position that’s frowned on is playing under them

If you play over the neck side it will be a more mellow and even sound. If you play over the bridge pickup it will be more punchy and harsh (in a good way, mind you).

Which one you use will depend on the song or style more than anything. Joe Dart, for example, plays all his stuff almost on the bridge itself. Don’t make my mistake and neglect practicing on both.

Changing the position you play on, especially early on, feels like relearning how to play. Similar to trying to type on someone else’s computer keyboard.

I’d suggest spending lots of time with both so you know when to swap.

You’d probably want to move your plugging hand up and down for better note accent throughout the song when it’s needed.
