Plugins I Have Known And Loved

Yes it is! I love it and it sounds as close to a real SVT as you could possibly get! It’s very full and satisfying in an authentic way, I was actually mind-blown when I first tried it. It got an audible “whoa” as soon as played the first note. Try a demo if you haven’t already.

If there should be an emulation that would make me buy an additional tool to my ITB bass arsenal then it would probably be an Aguilar emulation.

Because my 8x10 Aguilar IR’s are by far some of my favorite as well as my Marshall bass 8x10s which get rinsed and used constantly in my mixes. I can thank Dr.Bonkers for those, they are keepers for sure!

Oh I almost forgot, I also use Neural DSP - Parallax as well. Depending on the tone that fits my mix, I will change Mammoth out with Parallax if I need some clank because they are evenly as easy to use with excellent tone.

50% off at NeuralDSP for all plugins. The Darkglass plugin is one of the best bass distortions you can get.

Ooooh gonna have to get that

Native Instruments, iZotope, Plugin Alliance, Brainworx, and Sound Stacks have formed a united group called Soundwide. I don’t know any other details other than there’s a lot of free NI and iZotope plugins right now, so maybe we’ll see some free or discounted amp/cab sims from PA and Brainworx soon.

Awesome. Everyone should grab Neutron Elements and the SVT-VR sim right away, both are top tier. Neutron Elements has enough to dramatically improve your mixing on its own.

Thanks @howard, I just picked up Parallax

Seriously considering Neural DSP Archetype: Petrucci for guitar. Saw some really impressive demo’s and tried it a bit tonight. Got one day left with 50% off. It’s got 4 amps, multiple pedals and some pretty dam good presets.

Also considering Dark Glass or Parallax but not sure. I recently got Cerberus but haven’t used it much. Looking for some meaty tones for metal.

Yeah that Petrucci plugin is something else. It’s packed with extra features too! I got both bass plugins from Neural. Personally I prefer the Darkglass plugin over Parallax (both are good tho).

Yeah the Darkglass plugin is just awesome. A B7K and VMT in the same plugin, along with a very good cabsim.

Parallax is cool too, but I passed on it because I already do the same thing it does with other plugins. Even if that weren’t the case, though, I would still go for the Darkglass plugin first.

@Paul or @howard - thank you both, do I need anything else in my signal chain with either Darkglass or Parallax? I’m still very new to the world of guitar and bass tech having only really used combo amps until now.

Amp and cab sim after the NeuralDSP plugins; however you can get away without one after the Darkglass one if you want. Cerberus would be perfect, or you can grab the SVT-VR sim from Brainworx while it’s free. You should do that anyway

I use a lot more than that but I would consider those to be the basics, aside from the normal stuff you would put on a pedalboard like compression and so on.

Thanks, I’ve just done the free purchase for both of them on my phone. Will download tomorrow.

Does anyone know how to get the best deal on the full version of Kontakt 6? They are showing me a sale price of $199 against a full price of $399. I’ve read that buying a sample library may count as credit toward the full version, but I can’t tell if that’s over and above this “sale” if it’s even a sale and how much that would be. Any insight into Kontakt 6 pricing games?

The first thing to check is if you have upgrade/crossgrade paths available. That’s how I eventually got all the top tier iZotope stuff. Basically, a lot of stuff comes with a free license for Kontakt Player. If you have any of these, you can select “Crossgrade” in their pricing and get a much cheaper price:

https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/samplers/kontakt-6/pricing/crossgrade-offer/

Basically the deal with plugins in general is they charge what they want and concoct “deals” all the time. The only truly sure thing is to never buy at full price. The 50% off deal you are currently seeing is usually a typical sale discount.

Some places offer cheaper subscription plans where you get everything but pay a small amount monthly. This is great for trying things out, but can also be a really good deal for places like Kilohearts, where they apply each month as credit towards a yearly kickback of over 80% back in coupons to apply towards buying their stuff.

Not sure if NI does something like that or not. As far as the sample bank discounts go, different companies do different things here. Arturia will apply discounts for things like V Collection if you own any of their instruments (hardware or software). UVI does something similar (I think) with samplebanks. Not sure about NI.

Half off is usually my “buy” threshold for plugins, so at least you’re seeing a good deal here.

I think $200 is the cheapest upgrade price for Kontakt. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it for $50 like Reaktor. Have you picked up their free thing during the Sound Wide merger/working together thing? It’s a Kontakt Player instrument (I think) Also, Summer of Sound 2022 is right around the corner, that might get it to you for $100 (a lot of plugins and upgrades are 50% off during the summer sale. Komplete is usually fall/black friday)

There should be a 10% off coupon for now until the 26th, too. For NI, Plugin Alliance, and iZotope products.

It’s offering me a crossgrade price of $130 on their site (if I were to own anything in that list):

so even the crossgrade is 50% off.

That’s really cool basically rent to own. That would tip it for me for something like that. I like that things eventually get paid for.
