Plugins I Have Known And Loved

Cool! Can recommend some of those - the Kilohearts stuff is great

So, sorry for the basic question, but does Reaper support plugins like these? Or are they for something specific?

Yes. All major DAWs do. Anywhere you see an FX button in Reaper, you can add plugin chains. Track FX, Track input FX, Master FX, per item - lots of different ways to add them.

The easiest way to add a virtual instrument like the synths is the “New virtual instrument track” menu item, which adds a new track with the VSTi you select as the first track FX plugin.

You can use most of them in reaper, some require the full version of Kontact to use.

I need to make some room on my drive, I filled it up with all the stuff I installed over Christmas :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Yeah I am all bought out for a while, lol.

And Kontact is what exactly? I assume it’s made by the people who are supplying the plugins…

Kontakt is a sampler and virtual instrument wrapper that is part of the Native Instruments Komplete ecosystem.

Some of the manufacturers have complete ecosystems of plugins that sometimes allow for sub-plugins specific to that ecosystem. The NI system is like that. UVI makes a similar system.

I resisted most stuff until the sales were over but some of them were just too good to pass up!

One of the synths had like a 40GB library that went with it lol

UVI?

Sample libraries can definitely be large. The number of notes sampled, the number of notes sampled at various velocities, the number of patches sampled…

Yeah, one of my UVI synths is 70GB

My drum VSTi is pretty big too.

I can’t remember for sure, Orakle or Iris2 maybe? That might not be the full library size, it could have been the space required to install the library.

I spent like 3 hours installing all the stuff I’d bought over the last year and hadn’t tried yet :joy: and I still didn’t get to my Darkglass Ultra plugin, a couple of ampeg amps and probably more free stuff I’ve got sitting around somewhere :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I’m sure all the stuff I have from spitfire labs takes up a fair amount of space :slightly_smiling_face:

One thing I DID manage to resist buying this year

I don’t own this one but:

hmmm…

In 2022 the last thing I would ever want to buy is a hardware synth, so this would be a pretty nice way to get an opsix. Apparently sounds identical. $150.

They want 50 bucks for crossgrade ffrom HW Opsix. Thinking about it, because it should be integrated with HW Opsix quite well.

I play metal bass mostly. So the two plugins I use to get the most clankage is Mammoth by Aurora DSP where all the controls are conviniently placed on the same GUI panel for ease of use.

And I also use Nembrini Audio - Blackice Beta Gamma Bass Amp which is on the surface deceptively simple but under the hood extremely deep and complex.

However, when I need a cleaner tone then Ampeg SVT Suite has never failed me.

When I want a little more variety in my clean bass tone then Brainworx bx Bassdude has me covered on a Fender emulation.

These 4 bass plugs pretty much have all bases covered for me on the low end front to where I never really need anything else and it would take something extraordinary for me to need another bass plug.

All of these have onboard IR Loaders built into them except bx Bassdude, where you have to choose the last IR named “empty” then load a custom IR loader of your choosing to use Bassdude as a preamp before the cab.

Nice collection! You got Darkglass, Ampeg and Fender covered. How do you like the Ampeg SVT suite? That is the official one right?
