yeah we totally agree I think. kinda cool for a sofware guy and a hardware guy.
OK, so I got a new response from UAD about the non-working authorization:
Thanks for the update. I understand your frustration.
iLok Cloud Sessions can only be opened on a single computer at a time. If you have been sharing an iLok Cloud session between multiple computers or if your computer is left in a sleep/hiberation state for long periods it might lead to errors like one that you shared.
So that’s interesting, as my license should support two PCs, if I remember correctly.
And even if not: I’m not sure if the other notebook was online at the time (for synching content), but surely I was not using any UAD plugins on that notebook.
I assume that iLok is started in the background and this is what gives side effects. A message on iLok (“You have an active connection on another machine”) would be great!
Bottom line: it s#cks!
iLok is always running as a background process.
I’d rather have it running on demand only. Pretty sure I could config it that way, but I am tired of using anything UAD now…
Sadly UAD is far from the only vendor using iLok…

what do you think about some of the one knob (or two or three) solutions for common problems that noobs struggle with? I’m thinking specifically about some of the drum bus plugins that can easily dial in a good drum sound. otoh you don’t learn as much as diy. otoh it doesn’t sound like shit. otooh it might sound a little like shit? do they?
There’s nothing wrong with this. It’s like a thing that gives you a single knob to tweak to find sounds you like. Is it flexible and likely to lead to the best results? no. Will it be cool and will you be able to get good sounds out of it, and improve things? Sure!
Pretty excited about this one because (a) it’s Cherry so it will be both good and inexpensive, and (b) it’s gotta be a Polivoks
For those who don’t know it:
Very fat, brutal early analog with an amazing filter. And even more Soviet than the Russian Muff
It’s so funny.
Pretty much every synth player in 1988: “Thank God the digitals are here and we don’t need to deal with these flaky POS analogs any more.”
Today: “I can’t get enough of these awesome virtual analogs!”
It’s true though. The software versions fix everything that sucked about depending on them back then, and you just get the awesome purity and simplicity that made them shine.
It was pretty amazing, after the first wave of hybrids, and then the full digitals, you could pick up both used AND NEW analog synths for pennies on the dollar. No one wanted them any more.
Now they are up in four, five and sometimes six figures, depending on rarity.
analog purists are suckers
hot take
Bought it (of course) and its so good!
Brainworx Heritage Bundle is now about 50€!
It includes:
- bx_cleansweep PRO
- bx_control V2
- bx_hybrid V2
- bx_limiter
- bx_opto
- bx_panEQ
- bx_refinement
- bx_saturator V2
- bx_subsynth
- bx_XL V2
bx_subsynth seems to be very good!
bx_opto and bx_saturator are quite interesting…
EDIT
Tested bx_opto and bx_subsynth a little.
- bx_opto: very nice sounding compressor. I use it now instead of the f#cking (but technically great) UAD LA-2A grey compressor, as I want to avoid anything with iLok…
- bx_subsynth: hmmmm, it’s very cool IF you don’t overdo it. I seems to add some harmonics, making the bass sound fuller. If you overdo it, it tilts … thumping and distorting terribly. All in all a complicated but satisfying thingy.
New Arturia synth - polyphonic analog glory

(They have a promo now for those who already own any Arturia product, but perhaps will have another one soon for Black Friday etc.)
Yep if you ever have wanted a Synthex this is looking pretty good. There’s a few other companies making emulators of the Elka but so far people are liking this one.
Some gorgeous sound to be gotten out of this one
Yeah. Isn’t this one Jean Michel Jarre’s main synth? I forget.
Yes, I think there is a preset he was known to use in some of his “hits”. Some of the pads sound Blade Runner-ish, but I guess that is just this whole 80s sound
Yeah big Vangelis CS-80 pads are very ‘80s
