Thank you, both. Always nice to hear the work is paying off.
Nice job on both covers @Shane_Landen!
Lots of info in this thread, a lot more here:
few other places too.
@terb Iām curiousā¦ do you use OBS for your cover recordings?
I needed something quick on Windows recently and found OpenShot, which is free and seems good.
Does OpenShot use the computer camera like OBS does? Or is just more for post production stuff?
OpenShot is just a video editor and transcoder.
not sure what OBS is exactly, I believe itās some sort of video prouction software ? I donāt use this. I record the video part with the front camera of my smartphone (with Open Camera on Android), which is kinda primitive. the audio part is recorded with Reaper on the computer.
then I have to sync the audio and video parts, and for this I use VideoPad. probably not the best video editing software but itās very simple. Iām downloading OpenShot right now, Iāll give it a try.
OBS is a free, open source camera software for Mac or PC. You can use the built in camera on the laptop, or an external camera connected to the computer. It shoots the video and records the audio simultaneously, so you can then take the finished video to your editing software (VideoPad, Premier Pro, etc) for post production without need for syncing audio and video. I have used it for my past few video covers.
Hereās my shooting setup. Notice, the laptop in the foreground is the camera, using OBS.
thatās a pretty serious setup @PamPurrs ! mine is way cheaper ā¦ a smartphone on a tripod, and an old couch
Being married to a photographer helps ā¦
Good job @Mao! I gotta admit I have become a big fan of the La Bellaās (got them on my P & J now).
Nice @terb! Love that āGreenie;ā first time I have seen you with it.
thatās by far my #1 bass, you can see dozens of covers with Greenie on my site : https://basse.laurentberta.com
Cool, I will check them out soon! Thanks.
Thank you for the information. Iāll start getting into the production side more now that Iām getting a lot more serious about playing.
A cover of Like A Stone by Audioslave. The audio isnāt perfect so I apologize.
no need for apologies ! and I like Audioslave, we used to cover Show Me How To Live with a previous band
in the case of your cover, itās hard to comment because the track is really not easy to listen to clearly. I hear a lot of small timing issues but with Audioslave Iād say itās pretty normal, in my memories those lines are really ātiming-sensitiveā and not easy at all on this point.
anyway, a cover is always a good thing , so congratulations to you !
Nice job @Shane_Landen! Iām not familiar with the band/song but it sounded good to me.
Some progressive doom from a very recent album :
Sun Of Grey - Disease
I really enjoyed this album and wanted to cover the last song with the Ply-bass. I had big issues with the tone, and more precisely with the pickup which really sounds like sh*t. Definitly not one of my best covers, and I must confess that I hesitated to share it. But I always say that there is no minimum level required to post on this thread, so here it is.
Jim Harley Plywood P-thing (BEAD), modded ODB-3, Bass POD Pro without the LA-2A (the pickup behaves very strangely to dynamics so there is no compression at all in the signal chain).
