Very good @MattHinchliffe! Really great tone for that song! A Pink Floyd favorite of mine.
Hereās my first cover since graduating B2B. I donāt know how many of you know the song but it was one hit wonder in early 80ās as well as one of the earliest memories of songs I have. Great bass line and very fun to play.
Awesome job @MattHinchliffe! One of m favorite Pink Floyd numbers and you did a splendid job.
I left a comment and a thumbs up on YouTube also.
(Iām surprised that havenāt flagged this for copyright B.S)
I could barely hear it, but what I heard sounded good. Iām not familiar with the song or the artist, but I would like to hear it a full volume. It sounds like you did a good job on the bass.
Very cool bassline! Well played too.
I totally donāt remember that song!
Well done man! That is a groovy bass line and you hit a good tone to fit in with the song!
Good job @Noisembryo. I was able to hear it very clearly. Never heard the song before but bass line and tone were excellent. Looking forward to the next cover.
very nice cover @Noisembryo ! I didnāt knew the song, but I was very young in early 80ās ā¦
the bass line is fun and you played it very well. your groove and timing are excellent, especially considering that you finished the B2B course recently.
congrats !
If my ears donāt deceive me, I think @MattHinchliffe used a cover or karaoke version to base his own cover on.
What do you mean? Was original track not loud enough or was bass track too loud so you couldnāt hear original song well? Original track is mixed at -6db from bass track and that sounded like a nice balance to me.
The entire track seemed very low volume to me, even with my headphones on and my volume turned up. No biggie, it sounded like you did a nice job on the bass.
I see where the problem is, I forgot to add Limiter
I updated the original post with the new version that has proper volume but you should probably download the track before listening because that google player lowers the volume quite a lot by itself.
Took the new mic for a spin and got another cover done!
The best messy breakup song of all time
RIP Grant Hart. I wish I could sing like you could.
I really have to call out my bandmateās guitar here again, he just killed it. Sounds awesome. Also, it was fun running it though this really excellent guitar amp sim I have, Kuassaās Amplifikation Clarent, which simulates classic Orange amps. He definitely has that Orange sound in this one.
Iām using their bass amp now too, love it. And I absolutely love the bassline in this song.
Equipment (as usual):
Bass: Yamaha TRBX604FM through Kuassa Cerberus
Guitars: Gretsch 5120 through Kuassa Amplifikation Clarent
Drums: Steven Slate Drums 5
Mic: Shure SM58
Plugins: Many from Kilohearts, iZotope and Melda.
Tracked and mixed in Reaper.
Lovely @howard I really enjoyed listening to it under my headphones. Thatās some awesome playing by all involved and especially the bassist. Whoās that maestro singing?
Haha thanks!
Voice definitely the weakest link there. Big shoes to fill on that one though.
Whoa . . .
This one sounded really good, @howard! Your bassline sounded great . . . and I think youāre a little too hard on yourself about your singing
Cheers
Joe
Thanks Joe!
I disagree, I think your voice fits the genre just fine.
Thanks, I really appreciate that, Pam!
In this case they really are big shoes to fill, though. For a punk/indie drummer, Grant Hart had just an amazing voice.
hereās the original:

But he really just kills it here in an acoustic set:
RIP Grant. You were amazing.
His voice is a solid octave higher than my range so itās tough for me to sing his songs.
Hey, great cover again @howard ! thatās more punk than usual, in a good way your voice is more punchy, thatās great ! I donāt know if itās because of the SM58, you getting better and more at ease with singing, or the energy of the song ā¦ possibly a blend of all those factors
Studio rats minute : about the mix, I think that the voice is too much in front and the rythm guitar is a bit shy. I understand that the mix may emphasizes what you want to show in the cover, but there is a very fundamental principle of a rock-sounding mix : the guitar must really drive the thing. we want this nasty mid-range bite in front. Also it would have been a way to hide a bit the pitchshifter on the vocal track
about the guitar amp sim, itās fine even if I donāt really identify the old Orange sound. to me it sounds more like a Marshall, but still british amps with EL34 power tubes from the same era ā¦
just my opinion and just hoping it could be helpful !

I canāt resist ā¦ if you like old Orange amps you will like this french '73 MI60. the original circuitry is something between a Marshall SLP and a Orange OR-120 , and I converted it to a bass amp with a Orange AD-200 inspired circuitry (very close to an AD-200 actually, in 60w and with a different midrange EQ control inspired by the SVT-VR). I had a second MI60, a '68. but I traded it for a '84 Fender Stratocaster (which I will probably sell one day).
