I heard this last week in work and thought, now that’s fun song to play. My Jazz Bass (which I completed this week) was made from new parts and built up from scratch. I’m happy how it turned out. If you’re interested, the details are in this link below.
I didn’t look up the sheet music for this. I found the chord progression (Chordify website - Johnny Cash - Cocaine Blues Chords - Chordify) and then made my own bass line up. Root, fifth, the odd third and the obligatory country walk up / walk down. Happy to get to a point in my playing where making this stuff up isn’t a stretch.
I started playing Bass in Nov 2020.

Thanks @John_E the volume in the mix thing is tricky. I mix on my headphones but also listen on the Imac speakers for the final mix. I split it somewhere down the middle, so If people are listening on non high end audio equipment then can still hear the bass.
If I mix it so that it sounds good on my Sennheiser headphones, I can barely hear the bass on an Ipad.

The bad news is this only gets worse once you have multiple instruments, and throw in track compression/limiting in the DAW
I have obsessed for hours on probably the majority of mixes. It’s a tough art to nail. FWIW to me it sounds like you’re doing great, at least over my monitors. A little high, but hey it’s a bass cover over a live backing track. Your slight delay there makes it fit in well with the live track too.
