This is great @terb !
Such great tone and a cool tune.
Sure wish I remembered more of my 4 damn years of French in high school (hell, I sure wish I remembered a lot of high school in general).
You make me want an SBV!
Beautiful

DO IT
seriously they are wonderful instruments.
The timing sucks here but Toby actually had a nice looking 550 up for saleā¦
actually, to me, a SBV 500 is like a Jazz Bass but āeverything is betterā. Better look, better balance, better neck, better pickups. a SBV seriously competes with MIA Fender, quality-wise, which is not bad at all.
(sorry @howard but a SBV is better than a MIJ Fender in my opinion, itās more in the MIA range)
Not going to argue, itās a great bass. Love mine. That said Iām pretty impressed with my Fujigen-made Fender too, after putting in the DiMarzio.
But the all around SBV build quality is fantastic. Great feeling neck, very solid neck join, perfect frets, stellar pickups, everything.
Whoaā¦ā¦.double P āSBVā
yeah a current MIJ is not that far from a MIA, we probably agree about that. almost as good. and yes the pickup(s) is the weak point on almost every Fender instrument, which is not the case with SBVās
an extremely rare piece.
Yes, I almost bought that exact one (#32) but heās asking way too much for it (like 1.5x-2x), especially considering he has modded the fuck out of it
yep. Thatās the one I was discussing in the other topic a few months back. Still hasnāt sold (for a reason).
Hereās the local listing (about $1400). These usually go for about $700 here. My comments from my offer negotiations are still the latest interest on the thing
a basic 500 like mine is much more expensive here in Europe.
This one IS super rare, yeah, and I did make a serious offer on it. My bigger problem with #32 is he modded the electronics and is still asking a premium. And I am guessing thatās why no one else has bought it.
The hipshot tuners and bridge are a good move though, provided he saved the originals.
Cool cover @terb . Really like the look of the SBV and certainly itās tone
You and me both @John_E
All I remember is 3 years desperately trying to find French profanities and even failing to do that !
Dang! That was great!
While the Hofner was warm from the Christmas Song, decided it could once again double as a double bass for this tune. Had a hard time removing the orginal bass, which, is a bit out of tune on a few notes so a couple spots sound weird then in tune after again.
Anyway, a quick one inspired by @Barney and his Elvis and 50s tunes.
This is by far my favorite Elvis tune.
Excellent cover John! I love the sound of a violin bass.
@terb
I love that bass. It looks very comfortable. Killer cover too
Love the mellow sounds of the Hof @John_Eā¦. Great cover!! I (personally) would have liked to hear the bass a bit more out front in the mix thoughā¦. Could just be me though because I just got a new set of hearing aids from the VA two days ago and am still trying to figure them outā¦. Love that song and you did it true justice!! BZ!!
Thanks Lanny!
I was going for a similar mix as the original, and that was way way too low, then I upped it quite a bit so I could hear the bass lol.
Those old tunes aināt mixed so good but, didnāt want to stick out too much.
Tis a Hofner season for sure!
Great cover @John_E ! What strings do you have on the Hofner?
Yep Iāve been listening to a bit more Elvis since I watched the movie. That song was new to me and was fabulous. A lot of the early stuff itās almost impossible to hear the bass. So I thought it sat well in the mix. But I am on headphones.
Itās interesting as weāve been playing roughly the same amount of time how we transition from the ārabbit in the headlightsā look to almost falling asleep whilst playing
I do like that bass but Iām at my limit so no for now.
