Looks like you guys are having a blast! Nicely done!
I like the raw energy and nice P-bass tone you got. Only thing for me is the bass is almost too loud in the mix, even if I usually like to hear the bass well. It kinda felt like I couldn’t hear the track well to see if you groove or match it, if you know what I mean.
Cheers,
Antonio
There’s a whole rabbit hole to go down with versions of this song! ![]()
This was one of those bands with great songs and who received critical praise, yet never really managed to crack into major mainstream success.
Let’s Active - Fell (1986) bass cover

Great bass playing!
BREAKING BENJAMIN - ASHES OF EDEN https://youtu.be/oCrwXsG875s?si=-RkDP9_wRSqrPegY This was more of an experiment to me, played in Drop C. Kind of a simple song but that’s the difficulty of something like this, as your timing and listening skills come into play. Had a few slight flub ups on it, but eh, it is what it is I suppose. Thanks for watching
Crosscut Saw - Albert King
As part of my blues journey this song is based on an Afro-Cuban rhythm pattern or Rhumba.
In 2018, “Cross Cut Saw” was inducted into the Blues Foundation Blues Hall of Fame as a "classic of blues recording. It was also covered by Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Welcome to the rabbit hole!
Crimson and Clover was written in 1968 by Tommy James and drummer Peter Lucia Jr., of Tommy James and the Shondells.
While there are numerous covers of the song, I particularly like Joan Jett’s 1981 version. Think of when this was recorded, then listen to the lyrics and consider who is singing… it’s wonderful!
For me, covering this song was all about hitting the groove, playing each note at the right time, with the hardest bit being the opening 4 bars.
Once again, I double tracked the bass, playing the Dingwall Combustion straight into GarageBand via a Scarlett Solo.
Joan Jett - Crimson and Clover
The next instalment of my current rabbit hole will be coming soon…
Great work mate, really churning out those covers. I seem to have very little time at the moment for that, bit envious really! But nicely done!
Great job 401Blues!
Very well done sunDOG! How many Crimsons do you plan to make? ![]()
Thanks Jerry
I mean, you’re supposed to just do it “over and over”, right? ![]()
I plan to do one more… Was practicing this evening and just can’t seem to get it right through! Seems harder than the Joan Jett version!! ![]()
Thank you @Nebel!
I’ve never heard this song before, but you put that bass line front and center on a silver platter with everything it deserves and it is beautiful.
Thanks Paul! I appreciate that!!
Happy anniversary. Great job on a great song!
System Of A Down - Aerials
Still stuck on Billie Jean, hate the octaves, hehe. Had to do something else.![]()
Life has come at me again and I haven’t had time to make a cover in a while so I’m going to post two old ones I did with my family. This was done on thanksgiving of 2021 at my sisters house just for fun.
It was also the first time I had ever played this song and it was the first time my niece had ever heard the song, explains the horrified look on her face.
So this is my niece on guitar, my sister singing, my buddy on drums and myself on bass.
