Been there @Andrea_FI , done it and got the t-shirt. Admittedly I may have been overgeneralising for the whole of Poland but I’ve lived in a few cities and generally people are not as social as in the UK, or at least there don’t appear to be a lot of opportunities for socialising outside family (like open mic nights)…
It’s like peaches and coconuts. Some societies (‘peaches’) are superficially open and friendly but avoid close relationships, while others like Poland are more like coconuts - hard to get to know and trust, but really good friends when they do. Getting through the shell can be tough though.
Probably, @Whying_Dutchman but very few live in my area and most are teaching in the evenings…
Well that’s probably the strangest bucket list item I’ve seen for a while
It’s a Dutch thing. We have the scary old-white-man pedofile Sinterklaas (basically Santa) … and the funny, nonsense making, candy throwing zwarte Pieten.
Every child in Holland loves them. Every child wants to be a zwarte piet one day. And few keep the dream alive. For me, the opportunity to be one of them is one of the best things to happen EVER
I understand. Finland is the land of coconuts, with a few peaches. (Sounds funny to say that, considering the cold climate here, but it would certainly make an interesting cocktail drink! )
I tried a couple of ‘recorded experiments’ to see if there was a difference. I ran the EBS signal through the regular input of the Rumble 100 and then through just the return jack and I found that going through the Rumble, it had altered the tone a bit. I’m not saying that this is a bad thing, it’s just that I wanted the tone to be ‘pure’ EBS. Once I decided on the return jack method, I tried a direct into the DAI versus a mic’d setup. I found no difference with this comparison.
Thank you, @Andrea_FI! It is fun playing this song!
When I got a / the band going, I drove the process (as in, it was me looking for other musicians), and I had a specific profile of person in mind. I looked for others who were (cough) middle aged, so unlikely to believe that they were going to be the next best superstar, and would describe them selves as ‘ok’ on their instrument. I did not want to play with people who think they are going to ‘make it’, or prima donnas who think that they are virtuoso musicians. I used a combination of Facebook and BandMix to find people. Obviously, I have an advantage in that I live in the south east of England. Imagine the wedge that is outlined by the M25 / M3 / A3 - that’s where we all live. Rehearsals are generally in Guildford or Woking, depending on which studio has space.
Yeah this is basically who I’d love to work with - people who are broadly competent and in it for the fun and socialising really. It would be good to write our own stuff but being in a cover or tribute band would be better…
I’m in a medium sized city in the centre of the country - unfortunately not a big tourist centre, but still with a few rehearsal rooms around. Lacking venues and middle aged volunteers tho.
