I think I must have missed this one when you first posted it! Well done…nice steady rhythm on that one!
Well done, Ant! Cool song. Haven’t heard that tune in years. Happy to hear the thumb is healing!
This song reminds me of riding in the back seat of my parents’ station wagon with the wood paneling on the side as they listened to this song on the radio when I was super young. Well played!
Very cool, Duncan! I think that is great practice not just copying a bass line, but putting your own spin on it. Sounds great!
Can definitely hear that p-bass…sounds great! Never heard the song before…I like it. That band looks like a ton of fun to play with…enjoy every moment!
Enjoyed that one, Julian! Such a great song that evokes memories. Love the row of your arsenal up on the wall behind you.
I put a piece of foam under the strings, next to the bridge, to dull the tone a little, plus EQed some of the treble out. Butlins, now that would be cool
Either that, or just can’t be bothered to learn the original .
This song was originally recorded on the 1995 album Wrecking Ball produced by Daniel Lanois, however, I used a live version from a Canadian talkshow. The live version features Emmylou singing and playing acoustic guitar (the big ole Gibson J200), Daniel Lanois on electric guitar and backing vocals, Brady Blade on drums and Daryl Johnson on electric bass. Brady Blade and Daryl Johnson are from the band Spyboy that went on tour with Emmylou to support this record along with guitarist Buddy Miller. I chose the live version to cover as the studio version has what I would call a “wall of sound” approach to the accompaniment that creates a mood that’s perfect for the song, but you can hardly discern the bass in that version. In this live version, Darryl Johnson laid down a nice bass line that I transcribed and then simplified to suit my skill level.
Pretty excited after band practice last night. We got a new lead guitar player and he’s meshing quite well! Here is our cover of Kid, by Pretenders. Playing my MIM P-Bass special edition through some compression and a Sansamp into a Rumble 500.
I know you can only see my hands! I could have stood in the middle of the room but I was trying to watch our drummer haha.
Thanks amigo. I actually took the video down until Friday. I’ll repost it then. I had the worst view count on anything I ever posted on YouTube. I don’t think I’ll be dropping any more videos on a Monday haha I appreciate you checking it out. It didn’t get into the algorithm at all. Anyone that watches any of my posts I appreciate. Think I’ll stick to posting on weekends again.
