Well, then, that calls for a bass line and cover of this. :guitar:

Nice cover @brik1970 shame you cut your head off in the shot

I play up the octave because that’s how I play it live with the band. Playing the low E like you did doesn’t cut through as well as when I play an octave up.

Neither is wrong/right it just sounds better in our mix if I play on the A/D strings (easier to mute as well).

I say “Go for it!!”…. Might be a fun project given the tone and timing challenges involved…… :grinning::grinning:.

Keep on Thumping n’!

Sure, I get that - wasn’t implying otherwise, and if it came across that way, I apologize.

I was just describing a couple of my “tone struggles” when performing this. You are absolutely correct, the higher octave cuts through the mix better, but I wanted to at least throw my own spin on the song so did a mixture of both ways and added some personal touches, as you did. So, thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you, and yeah, I need to get better about that. I chalk it up to being rather camera/video adverse.

Not in the least. The tab/notation is a starting point for me. Not set in stone if there’s an easier/better way of playing it.

Exactly. The Tab for Muse’s Uprising has you going up and down the neck for NO REASON… and can be played comfortably in one ‘zone’… ( like Chris actually plays it btw ) … Tabs are not ‘law’

I love it. This is actually on my list, but far too emotional for me to tackle at the moment. But I do have other Gary Moore songs on my list. Still got the Blues was one of my most played CD’s. I still have it, but its a bit battered and needs replacing

My excuse for doing this in the past was 'it’s all about the bass, not the face’

Well played, and thanks for sharing!
EDIT: Having said that, I have now seen your user song index, and you’ve apparently been knocking songs out on here for around a year!
I know all about the performance anxiety of having a camera on. It wears off quite quickly to be fair. After practising, I tend to just leave the camera rolling and play through the song several times, then pick the best take. Or delete it and try again

Absolutely. This song notation is a great example of this actually. A few of the transcriptions I found did not indicate that the notes were to be played staccato, and additionally had bpm changes almost every measure. Good example of what you guys were talking about in another thread recently.

Screenshot:

Ultimate Tabs was better, but missed a part I caught in isolation where the whole phrase isn’t played through the first verse, there’s an abbreviated version before the chorus. Also note that they’re transcribed in different time signatures.

So yeah, moral of the story is that tab/notation are a starting point for sure, because accuracy does vary and sometimes you just have to trust your ears, instinct and experience.

See … for me … ( an me only ) if I were say trying to get a job with a band… then for sure this is what I would do… try to send my best

However … in this forum, where we all are learning… I care not, and will be 100% completely honest … with others, and myself

Just how I approach it… I am no where close to perfect… why try to pretend to be?

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.

About 2 years, actually. I do show my face occasionally! I was not feeling it for this video, my “resting bitch face” was in full force - lol.

Good suggestion. I will take that into consideration for the future.

Great cover! I love the tone - and I’m a PJ and Jeff Ament fan, so I don’t take covers lightly. Thanks for sharing your work! I also just learned that Sting often played a fretless with The Police, but I bet you already knew that.
