Here’s a cover with the new Fralin pickups in my Squier P-Bass. I figured I’d try a Motown song. A bit of a challenge, especially the intro. I hope you all enjoy it.
When you listen to the lyrics, you’d think they were singing about today and not the world sixty years ago.

Great job playing a monstrous Babbit bassline Jerry!!! Impressive to say the least!.. Just watching you keep the aggressive groove on that Motown hit sorta wears me out!! And yup, some things seem to never change….

Great job Jerry! … yah … that tune is a bit apropo for today’s BS … that’s for sure. Holding onto that funk that long would burn me out … way to stay locked in!

What you didn’t see is the three times I ran through it before turning the camera on.
Thanks for the kind words @Lanny Bill and @Buzzin_Canada-John John.

So there was this other song I was working on before ‘Evolve’ … and was having a gnarly time with the run in it… LOL.

Turns out that learning Evolve FIRST… helped me deal with my tempo issues in this song.

Naturally there are a couple flubs… but hey… I’m human and allergic to cameras. :stuck_out_tongue:

@JohnF - Ahh… nice and mellow for first thing in the morning. Very well done!
@Buzzin_Canada-John - This was tricky, I’ll bet, but sounds great, playing and the tone. Great job!

For most people, if I asked them to come up and see me and make me smile, they may well think I’d been drinking. However, if they were from the UK, and maybe above a certain age, they would instantly know I’m talking about the 1975 hit single from Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel - Make me Smile  . Also famous for the Full Monty soundtrack.

This was kind of a first for me as no tabs were harmed in the making of this video - I took the song (paid for of course  ) , split it in Moises and ran the bassline though Transcribe! - I think @Lanny gave me the idea for this (high five, Lanny!).

The Jack Casady does well with this and it just needed a little compression with my Line 6 (and the “Vintage” Sim). Full disclosure - I did bodge the bassline during the guitar solo so I edited in an earlier version. My poker fac emay not give it away but I was kicking myself for that when I was recording. I think I may have learned a lesson there but I’m not sure what it was
So -

Make me Smile, by Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel.

Oh the run at the beginning goes from G to G via the C Major scale - I guess this makes it the mixolydian mode? Check it out I am virtually playing jazz here

Stunning work @JerryP - when I saw the thumbnail I thought it was going to be some fluffy Motown track but I was pleasantly suprised ! Rock solid playing too :metal:
