Modern English - I Melt With You
If anyone ever asks me what my favorite song of all time is, this is it, with zero guilt. So many quality memories growing up with this song, even if it’s just a bit “beyond my time”
I have found that in using Moises to pull the bass from original tracks, the mids tend to become a bit… overstated… almost like AI stem separation isn’t perfect sigh that becomes extremely evident on a big jangly track like this, so for this one, I used a dynamic EQ on the backing track, side chained to my bass sum bus, to drop ~300 and 900 hz a couple dB when they’re clashing. In repeated listens since I originally uploaded this, it worked to an extent, but is far from perfect. I think I’ll be significantly more aggressive with this sort of cut, especially on tracks where separation leaves a weird midrange residue.

Glen Campbell - Rhinestone Cowboy
This one comes to you courtesy of the YouTube algorithm. Literally brought my bass to work as I’ve been in a bit of a funk over the last couple weeks with another project I’ve not been able to nail down, so this was a palate cleanse more than anything. Nothing too special here sonically other than the Ray34 with cobalt flats, some warm tube drive and a (hopefully) very tasteful dash of chorus and reverb. The song itself is very straightforward musically, no real tricks going on, but I particularly enjoyed the turnarounds in the chorus. Per usual my pasty self always wants to play fractionally ahead or behind of the rest of the band… But maybe eventually that will evolve into more of a gift than a curse
overall very nice, a couple misses on galloping (but you didn’t fall off the horse so good on you).
Thanks John… it’s a pain in the you know what to try and hold that plucking pattern for almost 4 mins straight!! LOL

The show went well and the owner was pleased enough to want to book us with the Billy Idol tribute in the future AND it looks like we will be opening for The Motels in the Spring!

I spent the last 6 months playing Grateful Dead songs to get proficient playing with a pick. I’ll be spending the next 4 month working on SKA/Rocksteady/Reggae songs to develop my thumb technique and playing 16th note grooves at tempo with fingers.
