Post Your Covers! (2026)

Because, well, it’s 2026!!

To shamelessly steal @terb’s post from March 2023, which was reposted for 2024 and 2025, welcome to the 2026 “Post your covers!” thread.

For the newcomers, here is the concept: share our bass covers here, and inspire & encourage others to get into recording, finding tabs by ears (or on the internet), and playing the songs that really make your heart vibrate. All of that means great fun and great progression. It could also be a way to give and receive advice and constructive criticism about our playing techniques, rythmic accuracy, groove, bass tone … in a nutshell, be excellent!

If you don’t know how to create a backing track from an album track, and replace the existing bass line by yours, we discuss the subject here : “remove” the bass line from a track 34

Also @PamPurrs and @John_Ecreated a great and useful tutorial about how you can record yourself : Pam and John’s “How To Record Yourself” Parts 1 & 2 (Audio & Video)33

Of course, there’s no minimum skill and difficulty level required and remember that we’re all here to progress and have fun. So, don’t be shy, make and share your bass covers! These could be pure audio tracks, or video if you prefer (easy to upload and share on Soundcloud and/or Youtube, hoping the ContentID filter won’t be too rude with us).

A cover can be either a video (more fun) or an audio track (easier at first).

It would be great, when you share a cover, write very clearly in your post the artist/band and the name of the song, so we all know who you’re covering!

Have fun!!

Please allow me to kick off the 2026 cover thread.

In these days of increasing global tension, perhaps we should heed the words of John Lennon…

It also helps that Paul McCartney’s bass line is pretty cool!

The Beatles - Come Together

I’m playing my Hohner Professional B Bass, via th Ampero, into GarageBand. To get the tone I wanted, I put foam under the strings at the bridge and rolled off the treble. The challenge with this is that it also made it very difficult to hear my slide between the D and the C on the G-string, so I’m not entirely happy with the recording. (The mute, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it! :face_with_peeking_eye:)

Awesome cover! Happy New Year, Duncan! Way to kick us off in style! I am about to post a cover of another song from the same year that Come Together came out (1969) from another British band that some people may have heard of….

The Rolling Stones - Honky Tonk Women

Happy New Year 2026!!! If you hang around until the end, you’ll see a white heron walking behind me (that I didn’t notice until I synched the vid and audio) that hung around until the end of the song and then flew away.

Great note and sentiment to start the year on, does this mean we can do Beatles covers on YT now? :crossed_fingers:

Nice job bringing that signature Stones swagger to this tune, and dang I see why some people head south in the winter!

Awesome covers @sunDOG & @JohnF. One of NY resolutions for 2026 is to pull my finger out, and get on and learn more full songs (can probably only do 7NA semi-reliably just now) - these are just the inspiration I need!

Hopefully I’ll be able to get to a good enough standard for recording, though I don’t have the fancy media tech skills or the glorious wildlife backdrop

HNY all,

Phil

My new band channel if anyone wants to support us there. Thank ya we appreciate it a lot. The vocals aren’t real loud on our first video, but we are working on getting the equipment positioned better so bear with us haha  We have a lot of covers we will post as we practice and prepare for our live shows. https://youtube.com/@elimin8rrockband?si=oMtV7a7LVPtIJqGG

(Updated video with boosted vocals volume)

….and a link to the channel I created yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/@PlayIt-SingIt

I’m not quite ready to do bass covers yet, and I’m not really saying I’m all that ready for vocal covers either, but it was my resolution, and both started and finished this process today, January 1st.
I’d never used Garage Band before, or my newly acquired Focusrite Solo, or the new microphone, or any part of this setup.
When it came to putting the video together I was disappointed to learn my 2013 MacBook Pro laptop wasn’t cleared for iMovie, and I didn’t have an alternate route so I ended up using a limited function free Adobe video editor.
Back in the 90s I had a great free video editor that I used but I’m out of the loop on what’s popular today, among hobbyist.
That’s my question for those posting their covers here, what do you like to use for video editing?

Happy New Year All!!!

Thanks, Travis! Yeah, I love that song. I’ve got Dead Flowers by the Stones on my “songs I want to cover” list too.

Thanks, Dan! I am doing the adult program at School of Rock and this season is British Invasion. When I saw the setlist, this song stood out to me with that country blues swagger, so I volunteered for it. As for the weather down here in south Florida, today was actually a “cold” day  , hence the flannel shirt.

Happy New Year, Phil! Thanks for listening to the cover. I can tell you that I am not tech-savvy at all, but just learned enough to get by in putting the track from garageband and the video from my iPhone into iMovie to piece something together. As for “good enough standard for recording”, I would suggest that you record one of the songs you know in full right now and view it more as a baseline for charting your progress. That way, you can look back in a year and see your journey. Have fun!

Subscribed! Looking forward to following you guys. I think you’ve got a good thing going.

Happy New Year, everyone! I moved recently and finally got my office set up how I want, so I had to record a cover to celebrate. A couple mistakes in there but I got tired of recording takes . These slower songs are unforgiving. This is The Sweetest Thing by Lauryn Hill.

Even in my darkest days of gothdom, I loved Ms Lauryn Hill and didn’t care who knew. I just wish that she had made more music. Awesome playing on that.

Thank you! And agreed. Also had my goth days but have always had a love of R&B and Soul.

Nice cover, really tight :ok_hand: Need a better view of the bass next time though

We’re supposed to be moving our gear into another room, hopefully with better acoustics and a way to set up that simulates us on stage (all facing the camera). We’re in a sunroom in the first video and had nothing to set the camera on plus the sun was brutal, hence why you see the backside of me haha  it was dang near blinding. Appreciate the view and feedback.

Ha! Brutal sunshine is not something I’m used to in the UK

Sub’d to the channel so looking forward to seeing/hearing the new setup :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :+1:
