Continuing the discussion from Post Your Covers! (2026): Hello! Brand spankin’ new to this forum and to bass (started playing end of June). My goal for this year is to learn the entire Breeders Doe album. I have a few songs under my belt currently. This is the first one I learned. Note, my recording is atrocious - I do not have the recording part down yet, so be gentle! I’ll post as I get better at playing AND recording, LOL.

The recording was really good, imho. At this point I wouldn’t worry about that, but work on muting with the plucking hand and getting an even tone. Disclaimer: I’m still working on that, too.
Do whatever works for you! I think Josh teaches the anchor technique, i. e. you’d rest the thumb on the pickup or the string above the string you play. That way, you get less noise from the open strings vibrating with the bass.
Loved the tone for that song.
thanks so much for your kind words and pointers. It’s so funny, when I practice, I am cognizant of all of the things, muting, alternating plucking fingers, resting my thumb on the plucking hand. As soon as I start playing a song, it all goes out the window

Danielle, if you are using your phone or tablet, dark mode is available in your preferences. It saves battery life which allows for more course time. Not everyone likes dark mode but I always use it when the option is there.
