Outside chance of this but does anyone have experience with the Lexicon PCM-41/42?
They sound really awesome to me and seem to be doing a whole lot more than delay, so I am curious about them. All the plugins modeling them are really expensive and the hardware units are expensive - big cult following apparently.
Mucking around with this ‘pedal kit’ today…seems a bit of a stretch to call it a kit, as all you do it put the knobs on and screw on the bottom [see the diagram on the box]
Since I got it to try a Nutube pedal rather than for building fun thats fine, and it sounds pretty good so far with its ‘sag compression’
Also If I ever do put it together I will be able to say ‘I built a power tube reactor’ to impress friends and relatives
Interesting pedal. How do you like it compared to other stuff you have?
I haven’t compared it to my other pedals as such as I just added it at the end of my pedal chain…I got it out because my tube amp died so I finally had a reason to connect it…without my tube amp my tone has lost some tube warmth/saturation so I thought I would see if this pedal could help until amp is repaired
The pedal
Sounds better on than off
I would say it is good but a sort of cherry on top kinda pedal for most I would think, analog tube sag compression pedals are pretty rare
FYI: This JHS vid demos the pedal and explains the concept a bit (using a gat) see from 40 mins in
Good points are that it did add a bit of warmth to tone and surprisingly also a bit of sweetening while still retaining definition in the highs I was not expecting
I can hear the sag compression swell the sound depending on how hard I play which is cool
bad point was the little tone control really ramped up the background noise level (with my pedal setup anyway)…I managed this by turning tone down pretty low and driving the tube and sag levels more, then mixing a very small amount of the tube sound into the direct sound (using mix control)
I also checked it with an eq in logic and it doesn’t filter out the bass at all so is fine for bass use
Probably a stupid question but is it ok to leave pedals on or should they be powered off when not in use?
I would turn them off. Note that the footswitch on the pedal does not always turn them off, it only bypasses them. You need to cut the power to the power supply. The actual power switch in many pedals is the input jack.
I have all my pedals plugged into an inexpensive Mastercraft power bar @swiens
One switch turns on / off all the pedals.
This is what I did too
I’ve got all of mine on a power strip that has a remote on / off switch. That way I can keep it a few more feet away from causing any interference. It’s got 2 always on sockets for the docking station that my laptop is plugged in to.
I remember something about a Router model in Germany, which had a problem that if it had run for quite some time (a year or so), and it was disconnected from power for an hour or so, it was dead afterwards. Had something to do with capacitors.
So although usually it should be fine and it only will waste some power, I’d rather turn them off.
I myself tend to forget and my pedals are powered for a day or so until I realize. My Boss GT-1000CORE turns itself off after 10 hours, though.
yeah but be careful with power strips to turn off your amp first or you can get a pretty nasty pop when powering off.
No worries there. I always shut down Garageband and the Macbook before I power off the strip.
I have my best girl Alexa turn on/off everything for me. She’s such a dear.
With the exception of my brilliant wife I don’t like having things in the house that are smarter than me.

The bloody iPhone is probably smarter than me ….
Hey Siri
Couldn’t resist getting this one as a 2nd hand buy to try
I don’t play funk (or even any fingerstyle really) so will be interesting to see what I can do with it
I just really liked the tones in this vid (and it looks cool with its pointer sisters sesame street pinball vibe)
Why has noone mentioned these VVco pedals before?
these things are wild
