I went with a G&L JB-2 for my 1st. I tried several in my search. It was basically a classic vibe p vs classic vibe J vs the G&L. The G&L was like $50 more than the squires and felt like it was finished to a higher standard than the others. It’s a p style body with j style neck and hotter alnico 5 pick ups and the g&l bridge.

That said, my next will be a made in Japan p-bass. It seems like the natural progression is to have both.

Hey we have the same one. I have one in pink you see the back of that bass on my stand. I also have the JB1 I kind a prefer that one a little more because of the neck binding.

I love mine, had a pro set up done and i love playing it. I dont have a lot of expirience with other basses, but my shop loaned me a yamaha bb while they were doing the set-up. While it too was a good instrument, i couldnt wait to get mine back. He had to trim the spring on the bridge A string to get the intonation perfect. Thats the only issue that i know of.

I’ve played many Jazz bass variants, super comfy to play. I’ve play P basses as well, bigger back and different body, have a rep for being better suited for heavier styles. Have played Stingray varients too, also really good and very comfortable to play.

Wow, that’s beautiful. Love the wood details.

Geddy plays a jazz, so for me there was little thought needed.
Recommendations - get them both and in 6 -12 months you “might” know which you like more. :jbass: :sunglasses:

I play my pbass most of the time and my jazz almost never.

I prefer the Jazz bass. Its body fits my body and I find it to be the most comfortable bass I’ve ever played.

Having said that, I don’t like most stock jazz bass pickups. Mine has the Custom Shop 60’s, which I can’t get enough of.

It’s all very person dependent. If you think it looks cool, it’s comfortable to play, and you like the sound, then it’s the bass for you.

I bought a PJ, so I wouldn’t need to buy one of each.
