Not long enough for a video or creating a new post, so I’ll track these here.

This one inspired by today’s Indy 500 race. Bass solo of a traditional song dripping with effects. It was fun to make this morning!

Ok, I don’t think I’ll do this analysis for every, single song, but I’m changing how I process my tracks in the DAW going forward, so I thought I would document my findings. You never know, someone may find it interesting. lol

@autumnsdad1990 made a statement a few days ago that inspired me to listen to my own isolated bass tracks. (BTW - I thought his sounded pretty good)

So, I gave it a go for my version of Lady Marmalade. Here’s the isolated bass track as it is in the YouTube video - mistakes and all. It has a bit of buzzing and a little noise, but it’s not terrible. Definitely not how I heard it while playing though!

I started using the compressor in the Boss ME-90b multi-effects pedal way before I began recording tracks, so naturally I thought I didn’t need to use a compressor in my DAW since another compressor would be redundant. Well, I was wrong. After listening to my isolated track, I can now see how another compressor helps to smooth things out. Here’s the isolated bass track with DAW compression so you can hear for yourself.

The difference is subtle, but it’s there. I feel like analyzing my isolated track is just another way to refine my tone by addressing flaws in my technique. And I stumbled upon it by accident. This place is so cool!

Thanks to @autumnsdad1990 for the inspiration. :slightly_smiling_face:
