Sounds good. I had bass that needed smaller pots, and CTS makes one, I just don’t recall which bass
I love the tele look.

Built a sled for a radius jig I have to radius my fretboards. Remembered I had some pre-radiused / pre-slotted fretboards sitting around that I wasn’t going to use (they are 10", my standard will be 16") so got one cut out for a little practice and just to see what it would look like. I’m actually tempted now.
Truss rod slot is squared up and the reinforcement rods are glued in.
Also got the tuner holes drilled to the right size, though I can’t really install them until I thickness the headstock properly. But neat to see it starting to come together!
You @fennario have set the bar very high my friend. People all over the world on this forum will be private messaging you to have you build their custom builds going forward! That build looks fantastic! I love everything about it! Great job!
@Glenn , dude, thank you for the kind words! Meanwhile I’m just hoping it plays in tune when all is said and done.
Assuming it does though, it’s going to be hard for me to put it down, that’s for sure.
This is so true! I’m so envious with this build. The only thing I’d changed is to make the tuner 3x1 simply because I’m bias,
Love my MusicMan. The Tele headstock is definitely next on my list.
Well done @fennario
BB300 is in one piece again.
The paint proved to be more work than it should have been and I should have sanded deeper to get it truly smooth but it’s finally in one piece and it plays well. New pots and new pickups. I need to spend some time getting the basic setup right but it works and that’s the main thing.
Nice job. These were great and that’s very close to the red they used.
Those 300’s are way better than they have any right to be for what they cost. Forty + years old and they’re still reliable workhorse basses. That red is beautiful. It looks like its in great shape, amazing job.
Thanks guys,
I’ve owned this since ‘94 or ‘95 so it deserved a birthday for surviving that long, it came out of Taiwan in 1988. I used the standard Stew Mac P-bass pickups because I didn’t want to get too fancy, they sound pretty good considering it still needs all the positions adjusted.
It’s slightly heavier than my 734 so Yamaha has stuck true to the formula.
Looks very much like my red BB, I thought it was factory at first. Did you darken the fingerboard as well, @blair ?
The only thing I’ve done to the neck is clean and oil it, other than that it’s ‘88 original.
Ah, maybe it’s just the lighting then making it look darker. It looks great all around!
Late autumn sun and whatever white balance the camera chose likely had an effect. It is slightly darker than the 734 neck though.
Love the blue 734’s. Well duh, I love all the 734’s, but the blue is an amazing color
It’s one of those colours that you appreciate more when you can see it up close. I’m glad I chose that over the red version because three red Yamaha’s would be a bit much although I probably wouldn’t have gone for red on the 300 if that was the case.
Speaking about painting, here is a work in progress I started yesterday.
It needs slightly more dark blue to bring the spiral forward and a pig (of course) but it will soon be ready for clearcoat.
It is meant to be viewed from a distance rather than up close.
I will either put it back on the wine red tele or build a blue themed one (the missus may not like that idea)
I saw the Animals tour show at the old County Stadium in Milwaukee. Between the very cool inflatable pigs and a full tab of Windowpane, I saw that sky!

A real Frankenbass here. I bought the body form a guy on marketplace. It was already painted red and partially sanded. They really messed it up a bit with chunks taken out and stuff. So I bondo-ed the chunks and sanded it down to what you see here. I painted the rose on there then sanded that too to make it look like it was under the paint. Bought the neck on Amazon for cheap. It’s like a baseball bat. Even thicker than my thickest p bass neck. Threw in some old fender pickups that I had in an old bass. And learned how to etch metal and put my logo on the neck plate. Overall I really like how unique it looks and it plays pretty well too
Love it! I legit thought your phone camera reflection was part of the logo - I’m like “what’s the deal with the guy in the gas mask?”
