Project Basses

correct

What would you like to know? I have the 4 set in my SRC6 and the 5 set in my Stiletto Studio 5. The only reason they aren’t in The Beast (my Kiesel 6-string) is because they won’t fit, and my C-5 GT I like the purple EMGs in it well enough.

Both basses with the Fluences also have a Darkglass Tone Capsule; I’m honestly not sure what I did with their stock bass/treble preammps :joy:

Were they easy to install? And how is the quality of the electronics?

This is also on my list of things to look into :slightly_smiling_face: :upside_down_face:

Finally finished the 28.5" scale telecaster bass. Tried to stain it black but got very chocolaty brown instead., and zebra stripes on the pick guard and headstock.

This is build number nine, and the first that I got the soldering right first time.

If you know what you are doing with soldering and can reasonably read a wiring diagram, yes, it’s pretty easy.

As for quality, I don’t enough on this to say, tbh. The toggle switch is definitely very basic/cheap variety you can find on Amazon all day but it does the job. The pots and PCBs that came with it seem pretty good though. The foam to put between the pickups and the body is very dense so it’s hard to compress when screwing it down, but it isn’t a huge problem at the end of the day.

Very helpful! Thx

I’ve got to do that next on the Moolah Bass. I ended up buying a “helping hands” and a solder version of it too. Terry is still coaching me, so I should be able to do it right. BTW, a quick update on Terry: He’s slowly getting back to the shop with limited hours for the moment. From what one of our carriers said last week, he told her that he died for 12 minutes after the heart attack but he bounced back dramatically. That’s why we’re so concerned about you @Wombat-metal

I have had an arrythmia since I was a baby, so I have been dealing with this for 60 years now. I see my primary care every 6 months, my cardiologist every year, which is why I was so mad he cancelled by the way, and overall I am well managed and nothing will sneak up on me.

My arteries are clear, nothing is blocked (CT scan last week), I presume my heart is dropping beats. There are no enzymes in my blood so nothing resembling a heart attack. But it’s still serious and scary. We’ll get it sorted.

I do appreciate the concern, I’ve know it was going to kill me since I was old enough to understand. One of my childhood friends Clint passed when we were 25 from a similar condition. I’ve no illusions or delusions, but if I seem casual, it’s been my lifelong companion and I’ll be dammed if I give into it.

I may not be badass like Pam, but I’m trying

Put your headphones over your heart and play, this should kick start it but good!

Seriously though, take care and don’t overexert at work.

I will forever be disappointed it was not Kickstart My Heart:

After reading your post I’m afraid I’m going to disagree with you on this point.
You most certainly are badass imho

Remember my '73/'74 lawsuit japanese “Duke” jazz bass ? this project had been put in standby when I had to move from my previous house, and since then I’ve had a lot to do and I almost forgot this instrument. Here is a picture of the bass when I just traded it for an old multieffect rack :

Lately I decided to give it a look to see what work is left. I was working on the neck, I glued back the reformed celluloid block inlays and tried to correct the fretboard. it needed some filling and sanding. Also the fretboard was very dry and I had to put a lot of linseed oil on it to bring it back to life. I’m quite happy with the result :

I’m off next week. I’ll have the house to myself. The weather seems to be cooling off some finally.

I can’t work in the air-conditioned garage anymore since there is a car where I used to work.

So I’m hoping to finally get my SRC6 back together, do at least some work on my fully DIY bass, and see if I can get the neck back onto the Soviet Space Bass again.

Let the fun begin.

The wiring for the pots is buggered so I’ve removed that, given the fretboard a little hydration and shielded the cavities.
I’m waiting for the delivery of the new pickups and I’m good to go as the new pots have just arrived

Delivered in just 4 days since i live in the Philippines…
The cavity of my bass was bigger but it still fit and my luthier found a way to put it…i replaced my EMG HZ ordered through dreamz services tracking status on my Schecter Damien Elite 5 and it is really worth it…tone is great and feels great too… i probably won’t need to replace my pick up and will use this from the years to come

Everything needed arrived today so I put an hour aside this arvo and got the soldering iron out.
Everything went surprisingly smoothly until I went to put the bridge back on and couldn’t find all the screws!
I searched high and low until I found them in the tub where the other 5 were ? WTF :flushed:
I also found one of the original knobs was broken inside but I had a set of god awful abalone topped ones I’d bought from eBay for the Ibanez but never fitted because they were so yuck
Plugged her in and low and behold she sings like a P bass :trophy:
Definitely needs a decent set of strings

I had to ask @mac and Brian (what’s his handle now??)

I am getting fair dinkum fluid in Australian by watching Ozzy Man these days - here is one for your soldering afficionados (relevant bit starts at 1:15) :joy: :scream:
