Pulling across string, noise on next string

I’ve been playing for about two weeks, and this course is wonderful! One thing I am wondering about though is pulling across strings to stop at the next string. Every time I do, I get some noise from striking the next string even though I mute it. Is that normal? If not, how would I stop the noise from happening?

What kind of noise? If (for example) you’re pulling across the A string and landing on the E, the E should not make noise. A slight scraping noise is nothing to worry about. Are you hearing the noise through an amp? I wwouldn’t worry about anything that you’re not hearing through an amp (or through headphones if you’re using a headphone amp) - strings make various little noises that no one will hear when the output is amplified….

And welcome! Feel free to introduce yourself in the (aptly named) Introduce Yourself thread….

This will fix itself as you hone your technique. Try stopping your pluck on the next atring a bit more softer/thuddier

It’s a thump sound as my finger hits the muted string, which I’m not surprised happens, but I find annoying. I don’t play with headphones, just a mini amp, and it seems I can hear it through the amp. I am getting a Zoom B1X Four this week, so I’ll be using headphones then. Maybe that’ll help :man_shrugging:

Disclaimer: I consider myself somewhere between good beginner and not quite intermediate player. I’m definitely not an expert.

It sounds to me like you may be plucking too hard, hard enough to produce a ghost note on the lower string when you hit that. I found iny early days learning with a 10W guitar amp with the volume real low I was plucking too hard to compensate for the tiny amp. After awhile I turned up the volume on the amp (an eventually upgraded my amp) and I found that when I let the amp do it’s job I didn’t need to pluck as hard.

My advice to you would be play around with plucking strength a bit, see if that doesn’t help.
