I bought a Electro Harmonix pedal board bag this morning on FB and decided to build a homebrew pedalboard to put in it.
Poppa’s got a brand new bag! (just finished that module in B2BA)
Anyway I built this using some plywood and wood scraps for legs. It’s way more function than form but I wanted to show details and pics in case anyone is interested in doing it themselves.
WARNING - woodworking can cost fingers if not done carefully. You can’t play bass if you lose your fingers.
Here we go:
I started by cutting a piece of plywood scrap down to 24"x11". This size is perfect for the new bag and much bigger than my current board.
I also cut 4 leg pieces from some scrap. These will make enough room under the board for routing wires.
After cutting everything out, I gave all of the surfaces a light sanding to knock off the corners and make things smooth so they wouldn’t get caught on the bag. Again function over form so I’m not looking to make furniture here.
After pre-drilling and screwing on the legs came the scary part. Routing out a 1" groove down the center for cable management. I’ve only used my router once before (trimming a door) so this experience was a little scary. Luckily I found a good way to clamp a guide to the board to keep the lines straight.
After routing the groove I used a chisel to clean up the ends of the groove since they were uneven.
After dusting everything off I added some Velcro which seemed to stick pretty well. I still added some heavy duty staples to make sure it doesn’t peel off.
I arranged and wired my pedals. I’m 1 power connector short but it’s ok since I don’t use my looper too frequently.
This bag is pretty cool. The entire lid zips off but it’s a bit of a pain to put back on so I arranged the board so that I can half unzip it and fold the cover over. This should speed things up during setup.
Just zip it up and throw it on my shoulder and I’m ready to go.
