Here’s a new video lesson from Rich Brown with a great technique for practicing major scales by playing diatonic chords (triads) from the 1st to 7th scale degree IN THE SAME 4 FRET AREA of the fretboard. This is the first time I’ve seen this technique anywhere. Very efficient, minimizing fretting hand movement. Great for walking bass lines.
New to me. Very little recent activity posted to his YT channel, but there are a lot of videos from 4+ years ago. I’ll have to check them out. Thanks for the heads-up.
Rich Brown has great stuff. But, yes, other teachers have the same or similar exercises, where one limits the range of frets one has at one’s disposal, thus making you explore other shapes than the familiar ones (and learn the fretboard better while you do that; especially if you use, say frets 9-12 for that exercise).
